Guest guest
okay i watched it. it was good - i just hope the viewing public who has never heard of aspergers before don't equate the syndrome with criminal mastermind non-empathetic murderers! i have always thought that goran was an aspie and i think that was alluded to a bit on the show. what did you think gina? did anyone else watch? michelle mg Re: law and order- criminal intent > i didn't -yet. because we have sattelite i sometimes watch it at eleven in another time zone. should i? are you recommending it? michelle mg < yes, watch it " Something important to remember...we'll always be who we are. Guest guest
Oh yes Goran is an Aspie. I've known it since the start of this show. It's one of my favorites because I just love that character and he does it so well. It was aluded to on this show when the female cop said " he was like your older geekier brother " I about died laughing. I also think it's why goran picked up on what was wrong with the man. He himself is aspie and he knows it. I mean watching that character over the year, you can tell he lacks personal boundaries. While I'm not sure the show portrayed Aspie's in the best light, I don't think they will be a bad rap from this show. I think they will write it into the script more then Goran himself is Aspie. This is the second or third show where they have hinted at it. Guest guest
I watched it and loved it. I'm in love with Goran, his character is my favorite on the show. Guest guest
> what did you think gina? < well, i'm curious to know how long it took you to know that guy was aspie. i knew it RIGHT away. i also thought it was interesting that he didn't think he'd done anything wrong (that part reminded me of lou). it was quite sad when he found out he was aspie tho, wasn't it? i don't think prison was the right place for him to go. Guest guest
>> well, i'm curious to know how long it took you to know that guy was aspie. i knew it RIGHT away. i also Me too. When he was sorting the files. I didn't know if THEY knew...the people who made the show...until the eye contact thing. BTW I am going to try that. Eye contact 1/3-2/3ds of the time. But I also need a minimum amount at a time rule, or I will be counting 1, 2, 3, 1, 2, 3 the whole time and all the eye shifting will just make things worse. And I will need a watch. >> thought it was interesting that he didn't think he'd done anything wrong (that part reminded me of lou). So who killed the black guy? The French girl? Or did he hire someone? Cause he said he didn't kill anyone. >> it was quite sad when he found out he was aspie tho, wasn't it? i don't think prison was the right place for him to go. I thought that was EXTREMELY well-done. " That's me. Why didn't someone tell me? " Wow. And yes, it was very very sad. And no, I don't think prison is where he belonged, but I'm not sure a psych ward was either... I did think they skewed the definition of Aspie to fit the episode, but of course you have to have the audience go, " THAT'S HIM! " or it doesn't work. The other guy has a lot of empathy for an Aspie. Graner or whatever his name is. <looks> Goran. But he has some odd body postures/movements and yeah, he knows EVERYTHING, he is a frikkin genius walking encyclopedia, and what whoever said about him studying and understanding the human race without taking part in it -- that fit PERFECTLY. I love that. I've only watched the show a few times. Will be interesting to see where they go with this. -Sara.
Guest guest
IS it empathy? Or is it application of vast knowledge? When it came to last night character , It would not say empathy. I would however say he really liked this guy. Got him, you know, understood exactly what he was saying. I had a hard time following the entire first look through the files but Goran followed along and got it. He understood exactly where this guy was coming from. It wasn't empathy. Not sure what it is. I've not ever thought he was empathetic; rather, I've thought he uses keen insight based on his understanding of the way people work in order to know just when to 'launch' at them as he is wont to do. This I believe is the case in all other episodes except last night. I really think he liked this guy at first.
Guest guest
>>well, i'm curious to know how long it took you to know that guy was aspie<< well i had a bit of a heads up because of your email actually. i had just said to paul (dh)that a girl on my list had been asking if anyone had seen tonights episode and that when i told her i may watch it later she recommended i do. as soon as the guy started saying they were looking for someone who had " studied at hartford blah blah blah " paul said " well, i guess we know why people on your list were interested in this episode that guy has aspergers! " then we both burst out laughing when goran's partner said " you didn't tell me you had an older geekier brother " because we have always called goran the " ace aspie detective! " but actually it crossed my mind at the very beginning of that scene when he said he had taught himself to play piano. who on this list recently said their son had played a song by ear having never been taught? anyways that crossed my mind. >>it was quite sad when he found out he was aspie tho, wasn't it? << i did think it was very sad when goran read out that diagnostic criteria. i am not sure i liked how that scene played out. it made me very uncomfortable. it seemed like the information was presented in an accusing, attacking, confrontational way. almost like you would say " aha i caught you - you're a theif " it felt sort of like " aha i caught you you have aspergers " - did you get that? it seemed a bit insensitive but that's goran's style isn't it? michelle mg " Something important to remember...we'll always be who we are. Guest guest
i agree with jacquie v - i am not sure we ahve ever had any indication or proff that goran is capable of empathy. michelle mg Re: law and order- criminal intent > The other guy has a lot of empathy for an Aspie. Guest guest
> when his partner (what the hell is her name?? < eames while we're on the subject, here's an interesting quote from imdb about vincent d'onofrio (goran) ... " He calls himself a Hollywood hired gun. If a producer has a character they can't get a handle on, they call . The only thing he tells them is, 'Don't mess with me when I'm doing it.' Guest guest
Well, I had never thought of Goran as an aspie before. Though, now that you all mention it, it makes a lot of sense. I can't tell you how many times I was almost shocked at way he handles himself in interrogations. He always seems to " cross the line " in the way he deals with the people related to the case. Gee, that should've been clue one eh? I got to watch a bit of the show last night. The insurance guy was glaringly spectrum. I watched with amazement as he talked about eye contact, less than 1/3, more than 2/3, so forth. Here was a person who knew eye contact was important to other people but couldn't figure out how to do it right. The comment about the " older geekier brother " was funny. But it didn't ring on me in the moment. I'm going to have to watch this show more regularly and study Goran. Guest guest
> The other guy has a lot of empathy for an Aspie. >> IS it empathy? Or is it application of vast knowledge? Maybe empathy isn't the right word. And I've only seen the show a few times, so I coudl be totally off. But it seemed to me like he felt sorry for the people he was catching. Not that it kept him from moving in for the kill, but...the best I can come up with is that he's like a farmer who has to shoot a valuable horse which has a broken leg. He feels badly for the animal, and he's sorry this has happened to it, but that doesn't stop him from shooting it because that is what has to happen. -Sara.
