I will be taking my 19 mo old son on the 19th for a speech evaluation. What

will they do? Do I need to have all his developmental dates with me? (I know I

can't remember them all!) Will they pretty much just play with him? He is only

19 mo old--you know they are not cooperative at that age anyway. He passed him

hearing test, but we did find out he has his third ear infection since Jan. All

of this is at the Children's hospital in Birmingham, as requested by his doctor.

I called EI in the first of April, they took my name and #, said someone

would get in touch with me in a week. I get a call and I don't know exactly what

this woman wanted other than the information already given. She said someone

would call me in another week to set up an evaluation. That's been 2 weeks ago.

This is so frustrating!! Isn't it supposed to be " early " intervention? At this

rate he'll be two years old before they even see him. I know there are kids

older than 2 before they get help, but I also know the younger the better.

Will all our interactions with EI be like this? (Remember I live in Alabama)

I cannot drive to Birmingham two or three times a week. It's 70 miles one way.

We'll have to find him a therapist in Gadsden. That's why I hoped EI would come

through and help us out.

One last question if you made it this far. Has anyone gotten Blue Cross Blue

Shield to pay for therapy? They have the seemingly standard statement about not

paying for developmental therapy. Of course we don't know yet what his problem

is, but I'm trying to do my homework.

Thanks to everyone!!

Godfrey
