I have had digestive problems since about age 25 and I am now 58. I've had

the rosacea for about 10 to 15 years. I had episodes of vomiting after

meals ocassionally over those 30+ years but often did not no what triggered

it. I slowly found that I could not tolerate coffee, carbonated drinks,

alcohol, peanut butter, and dairy products.

HI Everyone,

(3months) has to have a ...Barum Swallow? - hope I spelt it right, and

also a bronchoscopy soon. Is it usual that they do this on them so young? - I

have been reassured that the Swallow thing is not a big deal, but I am a little

worried about the bronchoscopy on him being so young and all.

The Doctors think he may have asthma also??? - all I need!

He seems to be forever wheezing, all the time, sometimes so loud that you cant

even hear the television. - do CF kids usually have a wheeze and cough at such a

young age?

Hi Kirsty,

don't know anything about the Barium Swallow. Why has have to

undergo this and the bronchoscopy?

Some children with CF are wheezing, others not. There is hope, that

it gets better, when the airways in the lung grow larger.

It seems like many people are busy with other things at the moment,

otherwise you would have gotten some more response to your questions.

Peace

Torsten

Kirsty,

Hi, hope's all well with you. Eilish had her 1st Broncoscopy at 5months and

she has had load's of them since. They dont hurt them and they are asleep

so they know nothing. They are the best way to truly find out what is

growing down there. Eilish doesn't have asthma but heaps of cf kids do.

Eilish does however take inhaled Ventolin when needed if she has a cold to

help loosen her mucus.

Are you a member of CFSA? 's on the board and has said some good

things are coming up, especially for the mothers - stay tuned.

My son had a barium swallow at 11 months - he was awake during the whole

thing - although he didn't like being strapped to the board he did ok. Just

be warned - the poop the next day will be chalky and white - I nearly had a

heart attack when I saw it - but it's " normal " after the test.

Good luck Kirsty and to , too!

Patti wheezed a lot before and for several months after her diagnosis. She

eventually grew out of it. The swallow study isn't really a big deal, they

only have to forgo food for a while for it to be done.

We didn't have to do the barium swallow and bronchoscopy, because her IV

meds. cleared up her cough and a majority of the wheeze. She was in the

hospital at the time of her swallow study when she was 2 months old, due to

new diagnosis and a very nasty staph infection.

To see the digestive system .There is also a barium enema my 17 year old had

both repeatedly for 14 days thru 2 surgeries. He was born with M I-and lots of

twisted small intestines (underdeveloped) multiple plugs and 27 days(one of

those was Christmas) in the NICU.Does he have reflux as it does seem to have

a link to asthma like reactions(maybe causes it to start ) a Bronch is

usually done if a bacteria can't be cultured.BeckyB
