You probably are not opening it with the adobe acrobat reader. If you don't

have the reader you can always d/l that from Dr R's site for free. :-) To

open the file in word, all you see is gobbledy gook.

Jill, you might be inexperienced, but please don't ever say you are stupid.

You know how to open up a program, and which folder the file is in?

If you know that much, then all you have to do is open up the Adobe Acrobat,

then choose " file " in the upper left, then go down to the " open " option, and

a separate window opens up. What is nice is that only adobe acrobat files

will be listed. So, just find the folder where the file is in, when you see

it listed, just double click on it and it should open fine. If you need

more help you can email me direct. :-)

and ,

first let me welcome you to the list! I hope you'll find some answers to your

problem here. Sorry to hear that your son isn't doing well physically and

psychally, but that's not so unusual.

I don't know how taking anti-depressants is seen in the UK. Here in Germany it

is often judged as the first step into mental retardation, while the folks in

the US look at it as the cure of a chemical imbalance in the body. Of course I

like the latter much more. Clinical depression is a form of illness, that can be

treated by taking anti-depressants. I don't think there's much more about it.

Here is hoping your son will do better soon. If your son wants to get into

contact with other teens with CF, I could provide you privately with a few eMail

addys. One teenage boy from the UK and one girl from Ireland are actively

posting on the net.

Bye

We have a 16 year old son with CF, and at the moment is in hospital, having

IV's. But they are also treating him for depression, and are now putting him on

anti depressants.

Has anybody else had this problem

& ,

I've heard alot lately (elsewhere) about cf teenagers suffering depression.

I can well imagine that the uncertainity of it all would be very frightening

and frustrating. I do hope his medication will help him over this time.

My 14 year old son , was dx. with depression when he was 10. They

started him on prozac, which at that time had just been approved for

treatment in children. He has done wonderfully on this. He also has a

problem with anxiety, as well as seperation anxiety, which first appeared

after his sister with c.f. was first hospitilized. It takes 4 - 6 weeks to

reach therapeutic levels in the blood, so you wont see anything right away.

Also tell him this as he may think it is not working, and stop taking it.

Good luck

, mom to 14 w/ocf, and 11 w/cf

My son has c.f. but was diagnosed as an adult. Genotype delta f 508/r117h.

He suffered from very severe depression three years before he started

developing pancreatitis (his c.f. manifestation.) I wonder what your son's

genotype is. The antidepressant which has worked best for my is

Wellbutrin (Bupropion) at high dose 450 mg daily. I don't know if it might

benefit your son.

Best wishes.Margaret Hager, M.D.
