Guest guest
My son took the test and scored 92. It was the first test that he actually scored in the average range. Visual motor integration he scored 83. Maybe it was the psychologist who did the testing though. My son has some visual perceptual problems, as well as dypraxia, and fine and gross motor problems. My son did poorly on the WISC3 and WISC4 and I was told my son was retarded because of those test. My son also was diagnosed as PDDNOS, so it is really hard to get accurate IQ testing done. I have hired a tutor recently and she has been able to get him better test results. The schools just want to cheat our kids out of an education if they can. Good Luck, Lorraine -------------- Original message -------------- From: mmich5569@... Hey All !! I was wondering if any of your children took the Test of Non Verbal Intelligence, and how they fared? I am actually awaiting my sons results...and Im just curious ? Is it scored the same as say the WISC or any of the others? Did you find it to be an accurate measure of your apraxic childs intelligence? Thanks in advance Michele

Guest guest
Hi, My boys have done non verbal IQ tests a number of times. The eldest started at age 2 and was tested non verbally as he was deaf - he's not apraxic. he was always able to use the tests and the professionals were used to doing the tests. He always scored really high which was nice to know but apparently it is not until they are six that the IQ can be effectly set. If he did one now I would expect it to be average, maybe a bit higher. My youngest, now 6, deaf and recently diagnosed with severe verbal apraxia, has had these tests since he was two as well. However, it was always harder with him. He'd get really highs scores on some and really low on others, or no results at all. Generally they averaged out the score at average. His most recent test was the most successful and really helped with the diagnosis. He was able to complete all the tests scoring around the average to higher mark on most but 'failed' on two, one of which was purely a language issue - he had to sort into fruit and not fruit but he knows apples, pears, grapes, bananas etc but he doesn't know that they are collectively fruit. However, sorting objects with wheels into those with engines and those without was no problem - and even the psychologist thought that was hard! I think they are a really good idea, but check that the person doing the tests does them regularly. Also, don't be disappointed if your child can't do all of the tests. If the results give you an average or high score then that at least means you can make education see our child as having normal intelligence. If they are low, check why, is it because of the language issue? That's why you need someone who is used to these tests and the results. You don't want someone saying " Oh he/she was low on these areas and on average that means subnormal intelligence " because that might not be why your child scored low. Good luck UK mummy to 8 and Rory 6 with severe verbal apraxia/dyspraxia [ ] Test of Non Verbal Intelligence Hey All !! Guest guest
Hi, For the tests my boys took, 100 is average but a score of 89 doesn't mean your child is mentally challenged. from my stats background I consider +/-15 to be outside average. if your child is under a certain age the upper range is 125/130. As they get older that increases too. Regards Re: [ ] Test of Non Verbal Intelligence Thanks for responding about this testing, it is all extremely helpful... do you know how it is scored?
