Guest guest
people *would* say that. when I was younger, people were ALWAYS accusing me of having an eating disorder. all through high school, all through college, even after. and, you know, I was so sick, it started to seem like maybe, somehow, I did. I knew I was drastically overweight, not fat, and I knew I didn't *want* to lose weight, but food made me so sick and miserable that I hated eating. celiac disease was a huge blessing - I mean, it was the answer to all those years of pain and confusion. if I were a celeb, tabloids would've probably been the same way... Guest guest
I would think she would have put on a little weight from eating gluten- free if she has obviously had celiac disease for at least 2 years according to that article. Don't people put weight back on after they follow the diet correctly?

Guest guest
I could understand her being underweight from celiac if she had always been so thin. But she looked a LOT healthier when she was with the Spice Girls than she has lately. It's usually the opposite once you get a diagnosis. I'm not saying she might not have celiac, but that's clearly not the only explanation for her weight issues. Jenn

Guest guest
yeah, it's weird. you know how drs say that something might "set off" the celiac disease? for me, it was mono. so I was skinny and vaguely unhealthy for a long time, and then in my junior and senior years at college, I got thinner and weaker and sicker. it's strange how bodies work like that, and what conclusions people tend to jump to. that's why I feel bad for celebs w/ weight issues, whether they're eating disorders, bad health, drug-related... because to be in the (largely uninformed) public eye must be even harder when you're visibly unwell.JennK wrote: I could understand her being underweight from celiac if she had always been so thin. Guest guest
My daughter has only been gf for about 5-6 weeks. She hasn't gained weight but that would be hard since she eats little to no fat/no refined sugars and is a dedicated pointe ballet dancer. She is 105 pounds and has grown from 5' to 5'1 " in this time. She is 16 and hasn't grown since she was 12. Guest guest
And for me it was pregnancy...at five months I miscarried (twins) and never felt like myself again (until I was diagnosed), of course it was " post tramatic stress syndrom " according to one doctor, but I was more upset that there was something wrong with me and no one was taking it seriously...guess it takes something like this for those " doctors " to stand up and take notice. > > > " yeah, it's weird. you know how drs say that something might " set > off " the celiac disease? for me, it was mono. Guest guest
Not necessarily, I lost weight once I went GF. Also lets not judge, maybe she works hard to keep her body looking the way it does? > > I would think she would have put on a little weight from eating gluten- > free if she has obviously had celiac disease for at least 2 years > according to that article. Guest guest
Hi! I am a newbie in here! Anyway, I'll have to agree with your comment, since I am an athletic person with Celiac Disease. I work out at least 5 days a week with average body fat. Maybe this gal works for her body, so let's let assume right away that she is skinny because of an eating disorder. Guest guest
It is true that many celiacs put weight on once they are GF. But for me, I have been finally losing weight steadily for the first time in many years (regardless of the diets I tried). There is one doctor that has been finding that 30% of his newly diagnosed celiacs are actually overweight at diagnosis (perhaps this is a large segment of those " missed celiacs??). For some individuals, the bodies inability to absorb the nutrients kicks the body into a " starvation mode " and actually pumps up the hunger sensation in an effort to get more of the nutrients it needs. They have proven this effect with people in third world countries and even in anorexics, but have yet to fully make the connection to a malabsorption issue.
