My son had maybe 5-8 words at 36 months and today at 4.6y.o. he is talking

in 4-6 words sentences...I thought he would never talk as well. It does

happen with frequent and consistent speech therapy, work at home and

school. I also give him ProEFA and Carnaware. If you don't feel satisfied

with the therapy and the progress he is making with his current situation,

it would be best to seek someone else.

I agree with the last statement. Appropriate therapy is needed for our

children. My son barely improved from ages 2-4. On formal testing he had

about two months improvement. Since last August until now the change has

been amazing! He is now getting appropriate therapy!

My daughter had 5 words at 24 months, 15 words at 31 months and now, at

37 months, she has 275 words and is talking in 3 (occasionally 4) words

phrases and sentences and is gaining more words EVERY DAY. If you would

have told me this 6 months ago, I would have said " NO WAY! " Like the

previous poster said, the right kind of therapy and supplementation is

key. I have heard that it often takes 6 months of appropriate therapy

to really start getting any obvious results and, through my own

experience, I have to agree.

There *is* hope! Hang in there!

Warm regards,

To give you a little hope, they do learn to talk especially with the

correct therapy. My son at 4YO was almost completely unintelligible.

He refused to look any adults except family in the eye. One

therapist

(before being diagnosed with apraxia) wanted to SST him for EBD. His

teachers and I refused to allow her to even try. DS is now almost

17YO

and is enrolled inthe International Baccalaureate (sp?) program at

his

HS. He will be applying for admission at one of the top engineering

colleges in the country. Presently, he is online gaming, talking up

a

storm with his friends. When he is excited about something that he

has

been learning in Theory of Knowledge or Physics, he doesn't stop

talking even when my eyes glaze over.

Don't give up.

Thank you for this post. This is so encouraging. I love reading

posts from parents with older kids! By the way, what does this

mean? " SST him for EBD " I'm kind of hopeless with the acronyms.

Sorry!

my daughter was verval before or around two hard to remember she had

baby talks and three words i remember mom dad and water. she became non

verbal at age 3yrs 10 months at time when she began special education

for the next two years no much gaing in speech. only a few emitation

and some words aproximations. in dose two years my daughter did not met

any of the goals set up by the iep team. at that time non bio medical

therapys what so ever. with a non strict casein gluten free diet I saw

the flipping of the hands gone I saw the sleeping disorder gone and

bowel movements be more frecuent. and crying for no reason went down.

she began imitating words and was able to mache the abc and letters

colors and shapes but words. with the vitamins and zinc from brain

child my daughters skin color change from white fade off color to with

caramel kind of look. with the combination of dmg, thuja occidentalis,

allitiamine(vitamine b1), malic acid, , td-dmps. we saw more eye

contact, more facial exprecions no more crying with no reason

, more willing to be hughed and hugh others. and more vocabulary this

was around january these year. with enzymes we saw and petizydes made

by huston we were able to se bowel movments normalize no more baths

with sampson salts or madication (laxantives). with the combination of

neurothera by prothera, phosphatidylserine, and monolaurin, naltrexone.

my daughter got even happier, less frustated. and the teacher

notice it something was going on with aurora three weeks on this the

teacher reported aurora sosalization skills got better

playing with normal kids art recess at age 3yrs and 10 months my

daughter was non social and school therapys got her to play parallel to

other with but not with them. eye contact got evemn better and know she

looks at you every time her name get call out. one time i enter the

room and she was not facing me and she turn around with a funny look

like saying now what did I do...??? she notice kme in the room with out

me saying a word. on last EIp the entire stuff was suprise with auroras

improvments in all areas in the last six months remeber we staret every

thing in january. we are in june do the math is six months.

with fish and cod oils we did not saw to much difference probably

becasue we thaugth the diet did more for her at the time.

with b-12 shots more vocabulary she began reading and talking in three

words sentences on her own. not just the pecs and try to read them.

she went from non verval to limited vocabulary.

all the biomedical treatment has work some helping on something others

in some other areas but after all I am happy

I found once a chart of autistic characteristics and my daughter had

all 20 of them now she has only 7

the most dramatical of them all was the hand bitting. because the IEp

team was going to implement a plan to handle this issue 20 bittings a

day today only 2 or 3 a day

" SST him for EBD "

Oops, sorry about that. I'm now a middle school teacher and tend to

revert to educationalese. That means setting up a Student Support

Team for Emotional Behavioral Disorder.
