Guest guest
Torsten Can you tell me what the difference is between enzymes. Eilish takes 3 pancrease but said he was told at the conference that if she took, I think Creon then she only needs 1. If thats the case then why dont the dr's give the ones that less is needed for and also said they are smaller than pancrease as they are big, which would make it easier for her to learn to swallow. Guest guest
Hello My daughter has been taking creon mini microspheres for about two years now. She is five. She takes one for every six grams of fat as opposed to pancrease that is one for every three grams. I use both. If she has a snack eg piece of cheese or yoghurt I use pancrease however if she has a meal I will use the creon. Your husband is right, they are half the size of pancrease and easily swallowed. See your doc about getting a script for them if they are available in your State. I do know some things are not available everywhere. The conference was interesting. Torsten, it was interesting to discover that GSH was quite a major topic and the benefits of replacing it. Hudson's discovery was discussed and the nutritionist who presented this is pushing for it to become trailed here in Australia. She says that they have discovered the missing protein in the CFTR and guess what is defective?? You guessed it ...glutethione!! I will certainly be looking into it further. By for now Cathy (Mum of 5yowcf) P.S Hello Sandy (NZ) Hope you had a safe trip back to little Jess!! TORSTEN > Torsten > > Can you tell me what the difference is between enzymes. Guest guest
Cathy, Im waiting for to get home from the conference I think he gets into Adelaide about 1pm so he should be home by 2.30pm. Did you sit in on the physio discussion about flutters ,vests etc? said it was really interesting. Mind you he didn't go to bed till 3 and 4am. The nurses, physio's etc all went out late so the cf guys went to. Is Pancrease used if your child doesn't have much gut involvement? Or is it just a choice? Guest guest
Yes I sat in on all sessions. I do believe the flutter and pep were by far above physio although I believe pep is used as a therapy in Holland with flutter as an alternative. You asked me about Pancrease. has absolutely no gut involvement (so far) however because she is a big eater I choose to use both and I believe our clinic generally recommends both. There was no talk of Pulmozyme being offered outside of the already existing criteria. Cathy TORSTEN > > > > > > > Torsten > > > > > > Can you tell me what the difference is between enzymes. Guest guest
Cathy, I think I'll ask at our next clinic appt. about the difference is enzymes. Eilish only takes 2-3 at a time and if she eats without them as she sometimes pinches things then she never has a belly ache and her weight and height have always been above 85%. The real good thing I would like is because they are smaller and we want her to swallow them. Guest guest
Hi , My dietician today told me Pancrease & Creon are the same enzyme just different dosage. As the kids get older they move onto Creon. I don't remember the exact amount but it is something like 4-5 pancrease to 1 creon. This came about when I asked if there was any other enzyme option available for Allesha (15 mths). She hasn't had any weight gain now for 6 weeks but is eating & drinking really well. Sleeping like a princess, happy & fulltime chasing around her big brother. - so obviously the enzyme amount still isn't right. Guest guest
Leanne, Thanks for the info. Thats probably why Eilish has pancrease as she only takes 2-3 each time so probably not enough for 1 creon yet. Guest guest
I think your dietian needs to go back to school OR read the inserts . No two enzyme companies make the same product. They HAVE to have a difference to be patented. She might be trying to say, they work alike BUT , even that isn't right. MY granddaughter is now 17 .She has been on PANCREASE since the day after she was born...She had mecomium iliues at birth , surgery in a.m. , and as soon as she was being feed, it was added . to prevent any blockages.....Really . we sell all of them..they each affect EACH person deferently . age has nothing to do with it . EXCEPT .the " DUH " --natch reasoning that as you get bigger , eat more, then more MIGHT be needed or a different strength. Allot of enzyme prescription are COMMON SENSE reasons. I hope you will check others to verify what I have said , but I do know enzymes. Digestive " things " have been my 17 years 24 hours/7days aweek thing since that is the ONLY problem our ERIN has had. Plus, I am at the CF Pharmacy too. LOVE & HUGS, GrandmomBEV Re: TORSTEN Hi , My dietician today told me Pancrease & Creon are the same enzyme just different dosage.
