Guest guest
Are you talking about the same Trader Joe's stores that are all over the Bay Area? Is there something special or different about the one in Chico? If you're passing through Sacramento en route, I'd stop at one of the Ellliot's health food stores instead. We discovered them on our last trip to Sacto, and found a large selection of GF brands (Glutino, ener- G, etc.) at good prices. As for TJ's gluten-free list: don't believe everything you read, I've been glutened by things on it 3 times now. Guest guest
I despise their " Fresh " corn tamales but have a soft spot for their frozen green chili cheese tamales. Too bad they have a billion calories. They also have good prices on coconut milk, Indian pre-packaged meals, some nice jams (i like pumpkin spice!), lara bars (limited varieties but still), meringues, nuts, dried fruit (watch quality, seems to have declined in recent years), cheese (sometimes even have indian paneer!), frozen rice (brown and jasmine, very handy when in a rush), gf banana waffles (yes homemade are better), corn tortillas, some soups and sauces/ marinated veggies etc (varying degrees of yuminess)... their rice crackers are the best ever (savory thins) but do carry the dreaded wheat factory warning, GF senbei (japanese rice crackers)... Oh, and their brown rice pasta is excellent and much cheaper than tinkyada. Their rice is mediocre at best (especially the brown rice). You may not want to get fresh veggies but i love their fresh basil- so inexpensive and nice. > > long story short, but a few of us from my office are heading up to > Chico (NorCal). Guest guest
> Oh, and their brown rice pasta is > excellent and much cheaper than tinkyada. =============== I am convinced that Tinkyada and TJ's pasta are one and the same. TJ's carries the COR hechsher, same as Tinkyada. this means both are made in a kosher factory in Canada. what are the chances of there being two kosher, GF manufacturers of pasta in Canada, especially when the rice pastas look and taste exactly the same? shez

My DIL and 6 year old grandson have Celiac disease, a few of the items we tried brought about a few reactions. When you check the labels you will notice that most of the products are produced by outside companies and do not state that all ingredients are GF. Guest guest
Same TJs, although this one is very new. I just haven't been to TJs much since being diagnosed. Unfortunately, I'm not the one driving so I don't have the luxury of stopping where I might want to. My company knows I will have difficulty eating out so I was given a debit card to use at TJs while in Chico. I'd rather shop when I'm there than lug everything up - although, of course, I will be bringing a few things, too. Which items on the GF list have you had reactions to? > > > > long story short, but a few of us from my office are heading up to > > Chico (NorCal). Guest guest
No problem with TJ is most products seem to say they are NOT made on a dedicated line. TJ's pasta has a much shorter cooking time, and Canada has far more gf food producers than you would think. Many of the gf thngs sold in the U.S. are actually produced north of the border. Guest guest
I would have sworn TJs brown rice pasta is much better than Tinkyadas. Though, it may be that I've just learned how to cook it where, when I tried Tinkyada, I was a newbie. Add to that the price difference... Anyway, I always buy the spaghetti and penne and the frozen tamales, too. Oh, and occassionally, the meringue cookies. Mmm! > > > > > Oh, and their brown rice pasta is > > > excellent and much cheaper than tinkyada. > > =============== > > I am convinced that Tinkyada and TJ's pasta are one and the same. > > > > TJ's carries the COR hechsher, same as Tinkyada. this means both > are > > made in a kosher factory in Canada. what are the chances of > there > > being two kosher, GF manufacturers of pasta in Canada, especially > > when the rice pastas look and taste exactly the same? > > > > shez > > I've wondered about that, too, but two things give pause to the > theory. Guest guest
And I thought just the opposite. ) But I definitely agree that they seem to be different noodles. For the vast price difference, I usually tolerate the TJ's noodles - they seem to be growing on me. ) --Trudy "Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind." ~Dr. Theodor Seuss Geisel -------------- Original message -------------- I would have sworn TJs brown rice pasta is much better than Tinkyadas.
