I am from CT....I have an almost 2 1/2 year old son that has oral and verbal

Apraxia amongst other issues and he recieves speech through Birth to 3 but his

SLP's are very good. What part of CT are you in? I am in Litchfield County.

Hi Everyone-

I am mostly a lurker here but was wondering if anyone was from CT?

Does anyone have any good SLP recommendations for my area?

Thanks!

We live in Southington. had Birth-to-Three for a couple years

and now he attends the public preschool program. He is just

starting now to say 1-2 words/day. They are not always clear but I

know what he is saying. He does not say things on command...they

just pop out! has hypotonic CP of unknown causes...he has an

abnormal brain MRI, but we don't know why after 2 plus years of

testing. I feel like some of the SLP's we have met get impatient

with his slow progress and end up resorting to Aug. Comm. devices.

He uses one at home and at preschool but I think we need to do more

cued speech with him and take advantage of his desire to speak!!!

Thanks for your post!

We live in Torrington and are hoping that Sammy will get a one on one aid once

transitioned to preschool in May. He saw a neurologist that ruled out CP, and

then she referred us to dev.ped for further eval. Some seem to think he may be

on the Autism Spectrum. My opinion on that varies daily. He has one word

" mama " everything else is intonations of words. He doesn't do well using

pictures like PECS, but he rapidly picks up sign language. We see the dev. ped.

on the 18th and are hoping for more answers. He has had no medical testing for

his conditions...no MRI< EEG, or blood work. My nephew who just turned 2 was

just diagnosed with apraxia and pdd-nos and he has had all the medical testing

and everything was normal so we opted not to test Sammy for now. We have him on

the ProEfa and he does show improvement with that...no magic pill though as far

as speech goes. I have done many internet searches for everything for resources

in CT and it is hard to find, but I've

found that his ped is extremely helpful in finding resources for him. I hope

you find someone.

I would recommend looking for a SLP provider with training in the

Beckman Oral Motor Approach. I have had much success with this

approach for my clients diagnosed with CP. It would at least be

nice to have a Beckman evaluation as part of the assessment to see

if it is indicated. Katina

It was sent from my addy!! I have no clue how I sent it on to this

list. I got it from another list I guess and from there I just don't

know.

I saw it on the list last night and assummed everyone would just delete it.

However, if your interest is piqued, it was just an animation showing a

model in real life (just her face) and the air-brushing steps that made

her billboard perfect.

Sorry if it caused any alarm.
