Guest guest
, Here is an internet site that helped me in regard to how food affects people with ADD and what to avoid http://incrediblehorizons.com/add-diet.htm It also gives the foods which are high in salicylates and low. I took out all the high salicylate foods that were in Shan's diet for a 1-2 weeks and now I add about 10g per meal (carrots, broccoli, mushrooms...). I do allow for a snack 15g of walnuts which are on the high side. And, lately I've been trying to give more healthy fats and I've added olive oil which is also a high salicylate. At the time when I excluded the high salicylate foods from Shan's diet, for a couple days prior she had been eating a large amount of pork, almond meal, macadamia nuts, walnuts, broccoli, and some carrots. These are all high to extreme high. Her behavior improved tremendously when I eliminated these foods. Looking back I believe her behavior started to get worse when I started using almond meal. I used a lot of it every day in pancakes or egg-noodles. I think the almond meal along with all the other high salicylates was too much for her. The book I want to get is A.D.D and A.D.H.D. Diet by Bell, Peiper. I saw it listed with Amazon. I'm thankful for this ADD thread. The conversations are giving me some insights in helping me to understand our daughter. It has been a frustration to know and understand what is our daughter's normal behavior, what is behavior related to a seizure, and what is an intentional behavior that needs to be disciplined and can be corrected. Since Shan is our oldest we have troubles even understanding what is normal for a child of her age. I need an all around support group that covers every aspect of Shan . And, yes, it is nice to know that we are not alone. Rhonda Rhonda, Interesting that you bring up the ADD because is ADd and extremely impulsive and aggressive. I am going to have to look into it. We tried adderral and it worked well at first but made him aggressive even more. I have a script for ritalin and have not tried it. We are thinking about a psychiatrist for him. I am just so emotionally drained from all of this. If it is not seizures, its behaviors and vice versa. Any ways, what foods did you eliminate and notice immediate improvement with?? I think we are in the same boat. Nice to know there are others out there and we aren't alone. is going to kindergarten next year (we held him back) so meals is not an issue yet. So far, we have sent his snacks and he does great with that. Thanks
