Guest guest
We have a spot to start the diet in August at Hopkins in Baltimore. Is anyone else working with Hopkins? Has anyone else started the diet there? Has anyone else worked with Hopkins from a distance (we live in Nebraska)? What can we expect? If anyone came from out of town where did you stay for the week? Guest guest
Hi Mike! I was just in the process of writing you a response and lost it so I'm sorry if this gets posted twice. We started the diet at Hopkins in May. Our experience has been wonderful. The dietician who runs the keto clinic is very knowledgeable and efficient. She's also very friendly. The two doctors who run the program: stein and Kossof are also great. We have nothing but good to report about our experience thus far. Fortunately, we live only about 15 minutes from the hospital, but some other families we started the diet with stayed at the Mc House or there is one other similar to the Mc. I would check with the people you are working with to set up your appointments. You should get a whole packet of information in the mail - we did - that includes information about accommodations for out of town families. Best of luck. Keep us posted. Guest guest
Thanks Amy, I have been in contact with Diane to set up the trip. She did say that we could stay at the Mc House but they couldn't confirm that they would have a room to stay until the day before we got there. She also told us about the other place but said that it was not in a very good part of town and many people that stayed there said they heard gunshots at night. Guest guest
Mike, I leave about 40 minutes from Hopkins and if push comes to shove and the Mc house doesn't have room, you could always stay at a hotel near BWI airport; it's maybe a 15-20 drive to the hospital. I know it's not as close at the Mc house, but I would feel safe staying at a hotel near there. Baltimore has its rough areas and you feeling safe is important to all involved. , mom to Ethan Re: Starting Diet at Hopkins in August Hi Mike! Guest guest
Mike, Congrats! It's so exciting that you'll be starting the diet! Our daughter, Camille, is also starting the diet, either on July 6th or August 2nd at UCLA. Our start date depends on a GI related test tomorrow. Good luck & congrats!! mom to Camille, 8 months old dx with IS, MISF Nissen Fundoplication, MIC-Key G-tube Starting Diet at Hopkins in August We have a spot to start the diet in August at Hopkins in Baltimore. Guest guest
Mike- Good old Baltimore... Usually the Mc house will have space. It is difficult to have to wait until the last minute, though. There are other hotel options, depending on your budget. There are some very nice hotels near the inner harbor, but they can be pricey. There are some hotels, as someone else mentioned, near the airport - but you will need to arrange for transportation. As the date of your arrival draws nearer and if you have not been notified that you can stay at the Mc house, let me know and I can send you the names of some hotels that are decent. I would be optimistic about the Mc house, though. I assume someone is staying at Hopkins during the visit? Amy > > We have a spot to start the diet in August at Hopkins in > Baltimore. Guest guest
If I understood correctly we will arrive on Monday and Broc will not be admitted to the hospital until Wednesday so from Wed. to Sat. my wife and I will take turn staying with him. If we stay at a hotel around the harbor will we be close enough that we won't need a car? I was told that Hopkins had a special rate at some of the local motels so maybe we will book a room at one of them to be sure we have a room and cancel if we get a room at the RM House.
