I was in Shop Rite in Mt. Laurel, NJ, and walked up the pasta asile with my mom. They had the gluten free pastas surrounded by wheat pastas. I know that gluten can't jump out of the box and into the GF pasta, but I could not bring myself to purchase the GF pasta. It would be different if the GF stuff was encased in plastic, but it wasn't. The boxes were so close to each other that you couldn't get a dime between them.

Yes, I'm a bit of a cross-contamination worrywart, but better safe that sorry I say!

So, that got me thinking....

Would you buy the pasta??? Or would you worry about cross-contamination and not purchase the pasta?

Love to hear what you'd do!

I don't worry at anywhere near that level -I've bought GF pasta that

sat next to wheat pasta on the shelf many, many time and never yet

have we reacted to it. I just don't believe that gluten cooties will

grow little feet and run from one bag into another sealed bag. Mind,

I don't buy opened or damaged packages, but we followed that rule

long before we went GF.

What type of pasta were you looking at that wasn't encased in

plastic? How was it wrapped?

I buy pasta from mixed-pasta aisles. I don't think the GF pasta inside a sealed box can touch gluten-y pasta inside of another sealed box... and as for possible contaminated outside packaging, I just wash my hands in between touching, like, grocery boxes and touching the food inside.Carol Heppner wrote: I was in Shop Rite in Mt. In my store, the GF pasta is in the regular pasta aisle. I've

never thought twice about CC in this situation. The G-infested

pasta would have to be pulverized and leaking out of its box to

bother the GF pasta. Not likely. And if it does happen, probably

visible.

Now, the GF FLOURS on shelves BELOW the G-infested flours! That's

a different worry altogether. In my store, however, the GF flours

are all on the TOP shelf. And when I spy a torn open bag of

G-infested flour, I bring it to customer service like I'm holding

a dead rat.

What brand was it? If it was DeBoles, no, but simply because their

rice pasta is a pathetic excuse for food.

If it was boxed Tinkyada, no. I can't easily rinse off noodles like

that and have a wheat allergy, not just CD. If it was bagged pasta,

sure.

I would have jumped for joy that they carried it! :o) I actually store all of our pasta in the same cabinet at home - as long as they're sealed I don't see that there can be any CC. Are you thinking there could be some on the outside of the packaging somehow? I've never really thought about that.

Thanks to all that wrote.

I am so use to markets placing the pasta in a gluten free area that this really surprised me. I just wondered if anyone used GF pasta that was next to regular pasta and gotten sick. With summer here.. and parties.. I like to make pasta salads when I go to a family outing.

You now, growing up we had pasta all the time and I was always sick from it. I've tried the rice pasta (and didn't care for it) and the corn pasta (liked it better).. but I normally don't eat it and I think it's because the wheat pasta always made me ill.

I have found that the corn pasta doesn't over power the sauce or what other item you use with it.-- Carol M HeppnerUpdated website: www.carolheppner.comNew Paper Arts Book: INKING by Carol Heppner (Sterling/Chapelle) 2006

I would buy it have the cachier put in a separate bag and the when I come home have a wet cloth

I would hold part in my hand when the box is still in the bag and then wipe it all around that should get all the stuff off. You never now if if it was on a sepered shelf the people are still handling it. Who fill up the shelf
