Guest guest
Rhonda, We give him unlimited veggies, meat, cream, eggs etc and then we limit carbs to under 20 g per day. We add fat with every meal and use cream still for all his snacks ie. ice cream, popsicles, puddings etc. It is really similar to 2:1 keto diet. Actually, on 2:1 he was allowed more carbs but much less calories. He is extremely thin. What are you doing with Shan? Are you doing Atkins?? Guest guest
, Do you mean you give unlimited cream, meat, eggs and limit only the carbs? Currently we are using the Stanford meal planner and keeping her to 1550 calories a day, 23g of carbs per day and making up the rest in protein and fats to average a .9:1 ratio. This is producing small to medium ketones which is perfect for her. Do you measure the amount of carbs in the cream? Does your son determine how much fat he is going to eat or does he eat just whatever you give him (you in a sense controlling how much fats he eats)? Perhaps our next step is to allow unlimited protein, limit the carbs to 20-23g, and make sure she gets a set amount of fat. The fats we are using are olive oil (cold pressed, extra virgin) butter, cheese and nuts. As long as we are using various types of foods that contain both fats and carbs (nuts and cheese) it may be a while before we can get away from using a meal planner and calculating. Thanks for your help. Rhonda We give him unlimited veggies, meat, cream, eggs etc and then we limit carbs to under 20 g per day. Guest guest
Thanks , This is really helpful. We have tried taking away the scale twice. The first time we allowed unlimited carbs of fruit and vegetables and within the week the sleep seizures had come back to 1 every 3 days, climbing the walls, and impulsive. The second time we allowed unlimited meat, added some fats and limited the carbs to around 20g (did not count the lactose free yogurt cream and cheese carbs) and in about a month the sleep seizures began to increase and the impulsiveness etc. came back. Since then we have taken her off cream completely (very sensitive to any form of cream but seems to tolerate butter and cheeses). We give her only " pure " foods (no additives, colors etc.). Her meals consist of fresh meat and vegetables, butter, olive oil, nuts, cheese, and eggs. Her snacks walnuts and pecans. We also adjusted her diet to be similar to the ADD diet. We use to give her a lot of almond meal and other high salycilate foods (macadamia nuts, broccoli etc.). At the time we were dealing with excessive happiness and impulsiveness in the evenings. When we tailored the diet to the ADD diet all immediately improved. We use Stevia for a sweetner. For a special drink she loves soda water with Stevia. Occasionally we will add a few drops of strawberry flavoring. You have given me a lot of good things to think about. Next Tuesday we have a 24 hour EEG. I want to see how she's doing currently and then pursue doing something similar to what you are doing. We haven't tried popcorn, but we have given her some sweet corn this past month. She tolerated it well. Popcorn would be a wonderful treat for her. Is your son in school? If so, what do you do for lunches? Rhonda Have you ever tried to just take away the scale and use the same foods while still adding the fat?? What carbs are you using?? Are you using any net carb products or atkins baking stuff?? Keep me posted and good luck to you!
Guest guest
Rhonda, Interesting that you bring up the ADD because is ADd and extremely impulsive and aggressive. I am going to have to look into it. We tried adderral and it worked well at first but made him aggressive even more. I have a script for ritalin and have not tried it. We are thinking about a psychiatrist for him. I am just so emotionally drained from all of this. If it is not seizures, its behaviors and vice versa. Any ways, what foods did you eliminate and notice immediate improvement with?? I think we are in the same boat. Nice to know there are others out there and we aren't alone. is going to kindergarten next year (we held him back) so meals is not an issue yet. So far, we have sent his snacks and he does great with that. Thanks
