We're home! We got home around 3:00 - Sam is an amazing trooper! We got to the

hospital at 7:00, got him checked in, etc. Since Tom's surgery they've added a

pediatric Same Day area which is SO much better than it was when Tom was there.

He was only moved between the Same Day room to the OR and back - had the same

nurse - it was as pleasant as it could be... Sam's surgery couldn't have gone

better (love those words). He was in the OR around 8:40 and surgery started at

9:25 - he was out around 12:15. Cindy - our audiologist - was really pleased

with the way the electrodes responded. We went to Sam around 1:00 - they were

ready to discharge him at 1:45 but we had to wait for Tom and Uncle Steve!

Sam didn't seem nervous at all. After he changed to that beautiful gown, he

played with a Game Boy (the pedi suite provides them!) and laughed and said

" just wait until Tom hears about this! " . His anesthesiologist is his baseball

coach so everyone around was wonderful and two or three were familiar to him!

Coach Joe said that he had to take care of his lead-off hitter and was joking

with Dr. , our surgeon, about when Sam could get back to playing

baseball.

He's home now, watching a movie and just ate some chicken noodle soup. He

doesn't seem to have nausea or much pain at all - fingers crossed!

I'm going to take a nap now - I'm exhausted! I'm SO glad he was approved and

the scary part is over!

Barbara, I am so thrilled for you that everything went off without a hitch.

Sounds like SAm did really well. How is he doing with the CI? I don't know

much about them, Bobby is not a candidate, but I often wonder how they do after

the surgery now that they are beginning to hear sounds they might not have heard

before.

How are YOU doing? ANy kind of surgery is stressful, no matter how it went off.

Wow Barb, it sounds like it went very well. I'm looking forward to reading

about when he gets " turned on "

Barbara,

I don't think I received the original email for this, just the replies. But

based on what I've read, it sounds like it went beautifully. Did Sam get a

Gameboy as a gift? That would be just one more enticement for Ian to have any

surgery, maybe even to invent one he doesn't need. LOL

Seriously, congratulations on a successful day. I'm sure you're relieved and

enjoying the emotional quiet after the nerve-wracking pre-operation days.

Give Sam hugs for us!

Jill and company
