Guest guest
I recently joined this group after our speech therapist said that our daughter might be " slightly apraxic " , but she was too young to diagnose. Our daughter has been in speech therapy at our expense since she was 2 years old, because she did not qualify for the state funded program. One of the main reasons, was that she was adopted from China at 13 months of age, and the evaluation team thought that she had not been exposed to English long enough. Her receptive language, however, put her at close to 36 months. She is now 28 months old and can be evaluated again by the state in 2 more months. I had started her on Nordic Naturals ProEfa Liquid several months ago at the recommendation of a friend (she is a nurse and has a son with autism) -- we have seen some improvement in making more sounds and some new words. Our pediatrician also said that she was too young to properly diagnose for apraxia, but I see others on this list that have been diagnosed close to this age. How did you get the diagnosis? At what age? I appreciate your help, Suzanne
Guest guest
Suzanne- was diagnosed as " suspected apraxic " at 29 months by our SLP and her associate/boss, who has 26 years of experience with speech disorders and apraxia. At 31 months, a Developmental Pediatrician confirmed this. I have found the medical diagnosis to be very useful when it comes to securing services. No one really questions it and easily gets what she needs (and is making tremendous progress). Hope that helps!
