YOUNG ATHLETES PROGRAM (YAP)

Young Athletes is an innovative sports play program for children with

disabilities, designed to introduce them to the world of sports prior to

Special Olympics eligibility at age 8. It strengthens physical development

and self-esteem for children ages 2 through 7 by building skills for future

sports participation and socialization. Young Athletes is designed to

address two specific levels of play:

Level 1 includes physical activities focused on developing fundamental motor

tracking and eye-hand coordination play.

Level 2 concentrates on the application of Level 1 physical activities

through a sports skills activity program. Level 2 also focuses on developing

skills consistent with Special Olympics official sports.

Kick-off & Sign-up date: Saturday, Sept 23rd, 10am-12n

Program dates: Saturdays, Oct 14 - Nov 18,

10-11am (6 weeks)

Program Location: Fitness Room, 2nd Floor,

Newman Center, Caldwell College, Caldwell, NJ

Directions: Bloomfield Ave to Ryerson Rd. Turn into the third parking lot

(at Caldwell College main entrance sign). Both Newman Center & Student

Center will be on your left, but continue straight to the parking lot. For

children with mobility issues, we will arrange a drop off person to assist

your child inside at the main entrance. The building is elevator accessible

to the second floor. Campus map also available at www.caldwell.edu

Family members and caregivers are required to attend!
