Guest guest
Hi , If she's thinking of seeing another endocrinologist, I know of 3 (there are more) in the Miami area. I see Dr. Weissman at Baptist Medical Arts next to Baptist Hospital in Kendall. There is also a Dr. Elliot Levy in the Aventura (North Miami) area. I've also heard of Dr. Zisman at Memorial Hospital. I hope this helps, Mabel in FL FNA 10/99 benign nodule, Hashimoto's Synthroid (.05) 1/15/03 FNA 2/5/03 pap thyca (3.8cm), Hashimoto's TT 3/6/03 at age 48 (no visible lymph involvement) RAI 5/7/03 100 millicuries WBS 5/15/03 residual activity in neck area Synthroid (.1) 5/16/03 Synthroid (.125) 6/25/03 Dr. Ain or others, question RE: woman w/ 17 nodules Hey folks, Word has gotten out among family and friends regarding my Thyca, so now I get phone calls for help/advice. Here's the latest. She is the mother of my older sister's Best Friend. Any advice is greatly appreciated. She is between 60-65 years old. In 1978 nodules were discovered on her thyroid, they put her on Synthroid, however after 8 1/2 years the nodules hadn't shrunk, so in 1985 they did a PT, the only removed a portion of her right lobe. The nodule was cold, solid, but benign. She felt horrible while on Synthroid, so after her PT, she gradually weaned herself off of the Synthroid. She said her numbers were all within normal ranges, however I'm not aware of the exact TSH numbers. Now, this past May, she back to the Endocrinologist, and they found 17 nodules, the largest is 4cm!! And her TSH was 5.26. They have not done any uptake scans, but they did an FNA, in 4 spots which came back negative. They put her on 50mcg of Synthroid and then last week, she ended up in the hospital. She said they ran a bunch of " tests " but not sure exactly which ones. They did test her TSH it was still 4.13. However, here is the problem...I told her " your TSH is too high, you may want to consider having a TT, to remove this mass you have, etc. " These are the symptoms she reported to me.... headache, cold (she's in S. Fl. wearing gloves!), but here's the one I don't get... she says she's feverish and gets night sweats. She says her temperature is going from around 97.4-101.6. So, she's taken herself off of the Synthroid and she says the problem of the feverishness is starting to go away, but she still is cold and has these headaches. I also asked her if she was pre-post menapause. She had a hysterectomy in 1988 and takes premarin/Estrogen. I mentioned all the stuff about taking Synthroid separate from Calcium, vitamins, iron, Soy and not eating for an hour after you take it. Yadda yadda yadda... I'm wondering if she could be having a reaction to the Synthroid, and maybe levoxyl would work better or could the feverishness be a reaction of the Synthroid and Premarin combo? She sounds so miserable! She's tired, doesn't feel like doing anything. All signs of being Hypo. She's tried talking to her Endo but she just tells her that the Synthroid " can't " be causing this. This woman lives in S. Fl. and called me all the way up in PA, hoping I might be able to shed some light on this for her. ANY feedback is greatly appreciated!!! in PA age 30 (6/21) dx Hashimoto's 5/2000 dx pap by FNA 6/27/03 TT 7/17/03-main lesion 2.1x1.9x1.0cm on isthmus, multi-focal-pinpoint (1-3mm) lesions throughout both lobes, 1 lymph node removed, lesion from neck wall Accidentally got a parathyroid, couldn't remove from thyroid Currently on Cytomel, RAI scheduled 10/7/03 ~Our lives can change with every breathe we take... let go of the past... and embrace the future.~
