Guest guest
a, I'm right along with you that we should all get our check ups. I have had some abnormal pap smears and had to have the leap procedure done and it was no picnic. I would rather know if something is wrong that maybe can be treated then find out when it could be too late. I had a BF die from breast cancer because she was afraid to go to the doctors when she found a lump. She had lost her mom at the age of 13 to breast cancer and she was scared. When she finally went it was to late. The cancer had spread to other areas and there was nothing they could do in the long run. I think we all should as ladies want the best for ourselves and that does mean regular check ups. :-) Hugs~ Donna Lay EDD 10/25/

Guest guest
Sorry, I don't think anyone said they don't do yearly's - I've just read alot of female problems and concerns regarding reproductive health and then somewhere in the middle of it all it will state that they hadn't been to the doctor in quite some time. I just worry about everyone and want them to stay on top of it. Trust me, I won't tell you everytime I go to the doctor or I'd be typing it all the time!!!! I understand the only telling the good stuff! And shouldn't you be in bed???????? > I agree with Yearly check ups But Who said they Schedualed and Dont do > yearly's I am just curious since I have been here over a year and don't > remember seeing this. Guest guest
Sorry, but I had to respond....I do know the importance of having regular checks but unfortunately was uninsured and could not afford having this done. Where I am at you can go to planned parenthood for contraception if you have no insurance but being that I had a tl They wanted to charge me full price. Then i went to the health dept and they too wanted to charge me full price because I was not having any medical problems. I was unemployed and looking for a job and just could not afford it. And since my children did have health insurance thru their father I did not qualify for any state assistance. I just got married in May and finally after sending the insurance company a signed affadavit, birth certificate, marriage liscense and IOU for the rights to my next born child....I NOW have coverage...therefor was able to finally make my appt and be seen. I understand what you are stressing especially because my mother also had cervical cancer but unfortunatley as we all know life doesn't always work out the way we would like for it to. Guest guest
My divorce was final in 1995 - so that is the last year that I had health insurance. Because of the business in which I am employed (real estate) insurance is not supplied. I was diagnosed with cancer in 1997 and I am still paying for the cost of my treatment, because there was no other way. If I had waited until I was able to get insurance to get a pap - I would be dead today. I lived on ramen noodles and peanut butter sandwiches for almost 2 years because I had no extra money to pay for health related costs. But I knew that I had to have follow up care and would need a pap every 6 months for the rest of my life. I'm not attacking anyone - it just doesn't make sense to suffer and save to have a tr when people aren't taking care of their health before the tr surgery or any surgery for that matter. Because I am now married to a man who is very financially stable I was able to have my tr. But he insisted that I have a complete check-up prior to scheduling my surgery to make sure I was okay and that the surgery wouldn't be too much for me. To me (and that is just me and my opinion) there is no excuse to not have an annual pap. Especially if you are having surgery. a Town (33) DH - (30) DS - Sam (12) DS - Pete (almost 10) TR 08/14/03 (w/ my buddy Teri) Actively TTC
Guest guest
Yes, it is ME, I have to step in here and make sure this doesn't get too heated. I understand that everyone has their own opinions about the subject, so let's try to respect each other's differences. To one person there may be no excuse not to have regular paps, but to another person there may be different circumstances. Personally, it is one of my top priorities, as I too have had cervical cancer, but this may be different for other people. Anyway, that's it, let's just make sure to keep this low key, OK? Thanks ladies, you're all great!
