Guest guest
My 3 1/2 year old son has just been diagnosed with speech apraxia, I'm still trying to understand what this is. He has Cerebral Palsy also and just recently had an MRI done to see what damage there is to his brain and what is affected. This was done before we knew about the apraxia. Does an MRI show apraxia of speech? I've also read a lot in your posts that many of you give your children Omega 3's, what does this do for their speech? How does it work? I've just purchased the childrens chewables for him today. What kind of speech therapy techniques do your therapist use instead of the traditional? He has some words and hand and body gestures he uses to communicate that he has made on his own. In therapy we use pictures and some sign but not much. He was late getting into therapy because there was large wait lists. Any suggestions would be great. Jen
Guest guest
The MRI just shows brain damage. My daughter has brain damage. The location of the damage seems to indicate that she shouldn't have speech problems and she should have more trouble walking. Well, the docs have been wrong. She has huge speech problems, auditory problems, and no problems with walking. Her left side of her body is weaker than her right side, but most people wouldn't notice that. Sometimes the Omega 3's help with speech, and sometimes they don't. I figure it's worth a try since they are not harmful. It seemed to help my daughter with brain damage. However, they had the opposite affect on my other daughter with only mild apraxia. They made her have terrible temper tantrums. Typically speech therapy should be some sort of cued speech (Prompt, Visual Phonics). Also, the kids need lots of repetitions before they can learn. Hope this helps!!
