Guest guest
Hello, My name is and I'm a stay-at-home mom of 2 boys: 4 and Caleb 2. has been diognosed with verbal apraxia and has been in speech therapy for about 6 months. He also has the complication of periods of conductive hearing loss from congestion with or without an earinfection. He talked little as a toddler, only a few sounds, not words, but LOVED sign language-- inventing his own by the dozzen (he still does). His pediatritian sent him for a speech assessment to determine if it was a delay or required intervention....that's how we got the double diognosis...or tripple diognosis: there is a componant of motor-sequencing issues. His language skills have always far outstripped his speech and he tests as a 7-8 year old in language. He has been progressing slowly but wonderfully in therapy. What I'm curious about is any related factors...gross motor skills, mood swings, social abilities... His fine motor skills are great, but gross motor skills seem to really lag behind his peers. He plays best alone...he has grand, elaborate, intricate ideas of play and *needs* to see them through or he totally breaks down. Since his brother has gotten old enough to truly play (and Caleb's speech skills are a total opposite of 's -- Caleb speaks like a 3-4 year old and has the language of a 4-5 year old) will have wonderful times of truly playing with Caleb, but then comes to truly needing focused time totally alone or he melts down. Does anyone have any ideas/experience with any related factors to the verbal apraxia?
