Guest guest
My son just started kindergarten this month in a new school district and was approved for an aide to help with potty issues as well to help use his augmentative communication device. Well I found out on Monday that this aide has not started yet (4 weeks into school). I was told she was starting the Friday of the first week of school. So in the meantime the special ed teacher has been taking him. The first week and a hald he did fine, urintated for them, no accidents. Well the last 2 weeks he will not go for her and has accidents everyday 2-3 times a day. The teacher tells me she brings him every 15-20 minutes to avoid accidents, but it does not seem to be helping. At home tells me when he has to use the bathroom and goes and does not have accidents. Last year at his old school he did not tell them, but they trip trained him and he rarely had accidents. So I know it is not a sensory issue where he does not feel the need to go. Anyways today I get a note home asking if he could wear pull ups because he is missing so much school being brought to the potty and getting cleaned up from accidents. I am livid. I have replied absolutely not. It took a long time to get to this point with and I am not about to step backwards, especially since his aide has not started yet. I am upset with because I know he can do it and I am not sure what is going on. He is a non-verbal global apraxic child so he cannot tell me what is going on. I know rewards and bribes work for me at home, but I do not think the teacher is using my tricks I have told her and outlined for her and so he keeps having accidents and worse off does not tell them and sits in it until they notice. I am up at 1:30am right now because I am so upset and can't sleep over it. The worse is I know kids are going to make fun of him, if they already have not for all these accidents, which was the reason for her asking to use pull ups. Has anyone ran into these issues? How have you resolved them? What would you do in my shoes? Michele
