Karla, You picked a really fun one. That is dysdiadochokinesia. I have it in a

word expander, as that is the only way I can spell it. Margaret

This gentleman has new onset stroke disease. In the physical exam, under

" neurologic " , doc dictates:

NEUROLOGIC: Completely normal gait. He can walk around in a circle and do

360s and continue to walk. No s/l " dystiatic cocanesia " . Romberg, pronator

drift are completely negative. Balance is perfect.

I have not a clue what this is, and I've tried spelling it different ways to

see if the spellchecker can help me out. I've also looked under all sorts

of spellings in my Stedman's Neurology book.

Any help would be more than appreciated!!! TIA!

Margaret:

Thanks so much for your help. I'm glad you thought it was a fun one. For

me it was frustrating until I saw your spelling and could look it up.

Thanks again! :-)

A good tool for brainstorming words which are only partially heard is

the Great Word List Project at MT Daily (one of the areas that is

still free to access): http://66.119.39.38/cgi/wl

It allows a wildcard search (but does require the first letter to be

correct/input to perform a search).

In this case, if you put in

d*nesia

it offers the following list of possibilities, with one-click access

to Google for a lookup under each word:

diadochocinesia

diadochokinesia

disdiadochokinesia

dothienesia

dysdiadochocinesia

dysdiadochokinesia

dysgenesia

dyskinesia

dysmnesia

It can be a very helpful tool at times.
