Guest guest
Hi , First and foremost, thank you once again, for investing so much of your valuable time to this site...It has been an amazing road for my family so far....starting with a non verbal child to one that now speaks in 3-4 and sometimes 5 word sentences...I credit her gains to wonderful therapists, and most of all this site, and your sharing your knowledge and experience... Just a quick question. Jackie is now on: 2 Omega 3,6,9 (not juniors) + 1 EPA 2X PER DAY Plus 400 Vitamine E 1x per day I recently ran out of EPA...shes been off EPA for a few days now, I see no regression, but am unsure if I should add it back in...what do you think? What I have seen so far from the E: MORE CLARITY!!! FINALLY!!! SHE CAN NOW PUT " F " AND " S " AND " SH " SOUND IN FRONT OF WORDS WHICH SHE COULD NOT DO BEFORE... We certainaly have a long way to go...I am considering having a blood work up done after reading one of the posts about carnitine. She is also mild low tone. What are your suggestions? And once again, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!! TRISH
Guest guest
My take on all this is that vitamin E is at the center of these neuro deficiencies...at least for some of our kids. Omega 3 works (and works well) because of the deficiency that is caused by vit E. One you replenish your E and omega stores, theoretically our kids may not need so much omega. At some point I am going to cut back on the amount of omega 3 we are giving ph to see if he can now do well on a lower dose. I suspect he will, but he has regressed every time we have taken him off omega. I hate to mess with what's working though...so haven't done this yet. I still wonder whether it was the vit E in the EPA that made the " big leap " for him when we added EPA. If you are not seeing any regression, and you are only giving 400 IU vit E once a day, consider going up to 400 IU twice a day, rather than adding back the EPA. Also consider adding a gamma supplement (I use Gamma 300 - from Jarrow, but there are many brands that are fine). YOu will likely see another big surge if you saw something at 400 IU. We saw HUGE improvements with a doubling of the dose at that level, and what convinced me I had to post our story, because there was no way the changes were just by chance. In the period of just a few days, ph was making more progress than we had hoped for by the time he hit kindergarden...2 years from now! And we didn't see impact on tone until I went to the higher dose. This is a safe dose, but as high as anyone should go until we have more information. But as long as the dose is < 1 gram (which is about 1500 IU) it is safe per experts in the vit E field. Still there is really no info out there on kids, so I don't think people should push it past 400 IU alpha twice a day, plus a gamma supplement (don't worry about the extra 100-200 IU alpha in the gamma when calculating). So alpha tocophorol 400 IU twice a day (lunch probably better than dinner because at least ph gets a huge energy burst about an hour post supplements). 1 gamma supplement a day (200-300mg a day...400mg is probably fine too) Anytime...can give it with the alpha, but more will probably be obsorbed if given at a different time. These should be given just after some " fat containing " food. Not on an empty stomach, or it won't get absorbed. So giving it just after a glass of milk (or soy milk)...or a piece of chocolate, a meal or something with a high fat content - for best absorption. But giving the 2 400 IU capsules is fine. And with this supplementation you will induce a gamma deficiency (and gamma it seems has important anti-inflammatory effects). An on the side observation. ph has gotten his 2nd cold for the season. Typically he would get ill over the course of a week and develop ear infections (this was in our pre-omega times), but even on omegas - these little colds would cause asthma problems. He had 2 days of mild cold symptoms, no asthma issues, and is already better. Same with my daughter...whose asthma is moderate - first time she had a cold without needing prednisone, with vitamin E. I suspect there will be other benefits of vitamin E supplement that we will only hear about years from now. I do know that NIH is studying it as an asthma therapy. Very interesting. An excellent side effect, if you ask me! For the first time in our house, a cold is " just a cold " . - > Hi , > First and foremost, thank you once again, for investing so much of > your valuable time to this site...It has been an amazing road for my > family so far....starting with a non verbal child to one that now > speaks in 3-4 and sometimes 5 word sentences...I credit her gains to > wonderful therapists, and most of all this site, and your sharing > your knowledge and experience... > Just a quick question. Guest guest
With added vitamin E, our kids may not regress the way they did off omegas without vit E supplements. In the next few weeks I am going to see if I can lower ph's omega 3 dose...knowing he regressed each time in the past. But I hate to mess with a good thing. YOu will likely see even more improvement on 400 IU vit E twice a day. I would probably restart the EPA for now and see how far the surge can go. There will be plenty of time down the road to try to lower the dose, but for now you are seeing amazing gains. Enjoy it and help maximize it. The more posts I see with families identifying apraxic kids with low carnitine, the more I think all the kids with low tone should be tested. Guest guest
We were thinking of starting our 2yr 4 mo. old son on one " ProEFA " a day however our local health food store did not have it. Instead we were told that Nordic Naturals " Complete Omega-3 6 9 " is the same thing. The only difference I saw was the inclusion of Omega 9s. Can anyone clarify? Will this be as effective and safe as ProEFA. We are going to check with our pediatrician tomorrow, but I thought someone out here with experience could give us some good information. Thanks Tara > > Hi , > First and foremost, thank you once again, for investing so much of > your valuable time to this site...It has been an amazing road for my > family so far....starting with a non verbal child to one that now > speaks in 3-4 and sometimes 5 word sentences...I credit her gains to > wonderful therapists, and most of all this site, and your sharing > your knowledge and experience... > Just a quick question. Guest guest
It's exactly the same formula, no difference at all. They just have a different name for their product when you order it online for some reason. > > > > Hi , > > First and foremost, thank you once again, for investing so much of > > your valuable time to this site...It has been an amazing road for > my > > family so far....starting with a non verbal child to one that now > > speaks in 3-4 and sometimes 5 word sentences...I credit her gains > to > > wonderful therapists, and most of all this site, and your sharing > > your knowledge and experience... > > Just a quick question. Guest guest
a long time ago I heard that the Nordic Naturals strained out all potential mercury from it's product and other brands may have this still left in them. Not sure if things have changed, but that would be a good question to ask. I called Nordic Naturals and they explained to me that they strain all that out.
