Therapeutic Category

Antibiotic, Topical

Use

Topical treatment of impetigo caused by Staphylococcus aureus and

Streptococcus pyogenes; also effective for the topical treatment of

folliculitis, furunculosis, minor wounds, burns, and ulcers caused

by susceptible organisms; used as a prophylactic agent applied to

intravenous catheter exit sites; used for eradication of S. aureus

from nasal and perineal carriage sites

Usual Dosage

Children and Adults: Topical: Apply small amount to affected area

2-5 times/day for 5-14 days

Children & #8805;12 years and Adults: Intranasal: & approx;12 of a single-

use tube (0.5 g) to each nostril twice daily for 5 days

Dosage Forms

Cream, as calcium: 2% (15 g, 30 g)

Ointment: 2% (22 g)

Ointment, as calcium: 2% (15 g, 30 g)

Ointment, intranasal, as calcium [single-use tube]: 2% (1 g)
