Jacqui - " Hey! Let's go to the bookstore today! "

Me - " Oh, we can't go today, you have swimming lessons. We don't have enough

time. We can go Friday... "

Jacqui - " NOOOOOOO I WANNA GO TODAY " ...(continuous kicking, hitting,

screaming, whining all the way home)

Me - " I would love to take you to the bookstore Jacqui, we'll just have to

do it Friday "

Me - " You have a choice: Friday or Not at all "

Me - (Silence - it's not worth the argument. Can't get a word in edgewise

anyhow)

Setting:

At Home

Jacqui " I WANNA GO TO THE BOOKSTOOOOOOOOORE "

Me - " Jacqui, I can't do anything with you screaming at me. "

Jacqui " We have enough time! I need to buy a new Junie B Book!!!!! "

Me - " Look, if you want to go you need to come sit next to me, tell me why

we need to go and ask nicely. "

Jacqui " We are going to the bookstore because I need a new Junie B.

Book. Can we go to the bookstore, pleeease?? "

Me - " OK. We can go, but we have to buy your book and come right home and

get ready for swimming lessons. Jacqui, did you

hear what I said? "

Jacqui - " What "

Me - (Repeats above statement)

Jacqui - " I wanna go Friday " . (skips away happily to play upstairs)
