My almost 2 year old rachelle (who i think is nt,

so far anyways..she's having another check done by

Birth to 3 next wednesday)..is totally afraid

of flies...We had one in the house about 2 weeks ago,

and i thought she had fallen or hurt herself, she

was crying so hard. But she finally said " bug " ..and

there is was on the kitchen floor spinning around (like

almost dead)...it took a good 1/2 hour to get her calmed

down again. Well, today, another fly..this one was flying

around..she got really upset again..tears, and just

terrified. So i rolled up some newspaper and finally hit

it...and i showed it to her, (she was fine to look at it).

But, for another 1/2 hour, she sat on my lap, and kept

saying " bug bug bug " ...And also, now, when she see's a

crumb or something tiny on the floor, she thinks its a bug.

Anyone have any suggestions, on how to get rid of this

fear? We will have lots of flies soon(and normally

alot of ladybugs, not yet tho.)...I tried to be funny

when i was trying to get the fly today.

Im hoping its maybe just a stage. But this is something she's

gonna have to live with.

Help???

thanks~

Sounds like a pretty normal fear. I'm sure she'll get over it eventually.

How about a book about bugs?

I know there are a lot of good kid books out there....

Good Luck!

you would laugh if you heard how my 2nd son got over his terror of bugs..I

almost wish he hadn't, lol...you know how cicadas shed there skins, leaving them

on trees and such..well, we lived in a spot where there were tons of them..older

brother showed them to him and instead of screaming in terror(the normal) he

decided the were just the coolest thing..hence the two decided to collect all

the skins they could find..had them hanging out of hair, off clothes, etc..lined

them up on their dressers at night..really lovely to see when you are going to

tuck your little rugrats into bed at night, lol

Dillon was like that about spiders, but he's not as afraid anymore. I guess

it was a phase.

Boone won't walk on a speckled floor because he's afraid it's dirty or it

has ants. This can be very embarrassing at times. He doesn't meltdown or

anything, he just won't go in. Period.

I hope it is just a phase.

it could be. kailey goes through phases like that. when she was younger, she

wouldn't walk on gravel or cracked sidewalks. she'd just freeze and i'd have to

pick her up and carry her over them. she also had a problem for a while with

trees that grew things that fell, like flowers or helicopters. it got to the

point that we needed to bring an umbrella every where we went.
