Guest guest
I tried and tried to take them. When I take them I am more mentally alert and I feel like I can conquer the world. BUT... the heartburn was a killer. I finally gave up. I had been taking the Nordic Naturals brand. Recently I tried an enteric coated version (different brand) and I had some of the same response (without the heartburn) but not as much. I tried everything to combat the lemony heartburn of the NN's with no luck. Drat! Guest guest
I've been taking 2 Omega 3 6 9s, 1 EPA and 1 400 vit E (same dose I give my 2 1/2 year old for oh, maybe a month now, plus a multi- vitamin. I haven't had any digestive issues or stomach aches, nor have I really noticed any positive effects such as improved concentration or reduced KP, which I was kind of curious about. The only thing I've noticed in fact is that my nails seem stronger and don't peel like they used to, which may or may not have anything to do with the supplements. Have you tried taking your fish oils with food? I always do, and I drink a full glass of water with them. That might help. > > I was just curious if any adults are taking the EFA fish or cod oil > suppliments too? I took the omega 3.6.9(Nordic Naturals) 1 a day for > about 6 weeks and felt great. Guest guest
Hi Janel, My entire family and most of every living person I know is on fish oil and I've never heard of anyone having stomach aches from it. What time of day do you take it and have you switched times? Can you try switching brands or taking it with different foods? If you burp for example that's a sign that the oil is probably rancid. It doesn't make sense that all was fine and then the stomach ache started -was the oil left out in the sun? Also we don't take cod liver oil in my family -just the ProEFA and ProEPA (and Glenn and I take the ProEPA extra) If you mix ProEFA and cod liver oil you are changing the formula -and raising the DHA not the EPA -and adding vitamin A to the mix which you have to be careful about high dosages with. (not saying you are using both -but quickly read someone is) For me on just one ProEFA a day I immediately found an increase in memory, focus. I never go into a room anymore and forget why I'm in there. If that sounds familiar take fish oil for a week and let us know. To me it's the only supplement I take where I actually know if I forget to take it (because I forget!) I take about 3 or 4 capsules a day now. Below is an archive where I joke around why my husband Glenn needs to take fish oil for some minor eczema reason from 2004...well in 2006 he had a heart attack...and lived. His cardiologist Dr. Gage who is a self proclaimed number one fish oil fan says that if he didn't know Glenn had a heart attack he would never know -he is doing that well and has no sign of damage from the heart attack. Coincidence? I'm not feeling that lucky and am thankful that Glenn was on fish oil for years. I know the stats say that there is a 70% decrease in fatal heart attacks for those on fish oil -and am glad that Glenn supports those stats. And Glenn is only in his early 40s!!! My father and Glenn's father both died young of heart attacks...if I regret anything it's the lack of knowledge and the ignorance towards the importance of fish oil except for children years ago. Ironic isn't it that years ago the awareness was for children and not for adults and today the awareness is for adults -and savvy professionals and parents for children. some archives: From: " kiddietalk " <kiddietalk@...> Date: Sat Jan 3, 2004 10:17 pm Subject: Re: Attn
Guest guest
Janel, I started taking 2 ProEFA (Omega 3-6-9) a day for a few months BEFORE I gave them to Max. I had gas/loose stools for the 1st week or so but since then have had no problems with them. I guess it has been about 9 months or so that I've been taking them. For several years, I've had a problem of my extremities falling asleep when I put them in an awkward position. For example, sitting in an office chair in the same position would put a foot to sleep or rolling over on an arm while sleeping would put it to sleep. I know this isn't unusual occasionally, but this would happen all the time. As soon as I changed position, the feeling would come back so I wasn't too worried about it. Anyway, within 6 weeks of starting the ProEFA, this STOPPED. I didn't think much of it until I ran out for a few weeks and it started happening again. I started the ProEFA back and it went away again. Since these supplements are also good for the heart etc and I don't eat fish, I figure I'm a lifetime taker of this stuff. Guest guest
Hi Janel, Since I read about all the benefits of the Omega 3, 6 and 9, my entire family started taking it. I have an older son (7) who is not Apraxic but had very bad eczema and I had tried a lot of things that did not work, well guess what, Pro Efa did! My son has been eczema free for months now, I also noted that my need for sweets has decreased and dandruff disapeared... I have had problems with stomach aches too, in the past, I found a brand at welgreeens called Century 21, the pill is enteric coated which helps with that, but I have not been seeing it lately, so I always try to take mine with a meal (right after lunch or dinner), and I drink lots of water with it, it seems to help. Good luck! > > I was just curious if any adults are taking the EFA fish or cod oil > suppliments too? I took the omega 3.6.9(Nordic Naturals) 1 a day for > about 6 weeks and felt great. Guest guest
Janel, I take the same NN omega 3,6,9 that my daughter does. I take 2 pills per day. I've been taking it for a year or so. (LOL I actually ordered my daughter the NN ProEFA online and when I got it I realized it was the same thing I already had with just a different name.) I've never had any problems with it. I see a lot of recommendations for adults to take fish oils. It's recommended during pregnancy and breastfeeding. It's also recommended to help fight heart disease and to improve brain function. I've never noticed feeling any different since taking it, but I think it's a good idea since I don't eat any fish. Guest guest
Gosh that might be it, I used to take them with a small snack...then I stopped my snack and was just taking the pill I wonder if that's why my stomach gets upset. Guest guest
Thanks I will be aware now when I start taking it again to make sure it didn't go bad. Maybe that's what happened in combo with me taking it before bed on a empty stomache. I'm gonna wait till next weekend and try to take it again but with breakfast. I bought a cheaper brand this time so hopefully it will turn out ok...it's the NOW brand from whole foods. They were all out of the NN. I know I saw almost instant results to my skin and hair and my menstral cycles. I actually for the 1st time in a long time had a normal 28 day menstral cycle, actually 2 of them while I was taking them.(This is unusual for me my body is very irregular). I'm looking forward to starting them up again next weekend, eventhough I've only been off them for a week now. thanks for your help. Guest guest
I take Fish oil at night Janel with no trouble but my son has to take it in the a.m. I know I did have a " digestion adjustment " time but there was no pain involved. I would try taking them in the a.m. when you feel up to trying them again. JMO! > > I was just curious if any adults are taking the EFA fish or cod oil > suppliments too?
