Hello all,

Peanut butter has the omegas in it just like flax oil and is a little

cheaper.

LOL !!!!!!

Hey - if you get your hands on that " Aspie Handbook " - I need a copy.

Dawn

Obviously, I do not have this Aspie Parenting down....I bought a different

brand of peanut butter (my picky eater LOVES P.B.) and never gave it a

second

thought. I needed it and bought what I saw at Trader Joe's. No, problemo

right? Oh...I was so wrong~

This morning Joe notices immediately that what is on his toast is not HIS

peanut butter. He sniffs it but will not take a bite! Then he proceeds into

a full meltdown!

Ugh...all before my coffee.... Can someone put my brains back in my head!

What was I thinking???? That should be in the Aspie handbook...do not change

brands under any circumstances!!! LOLLL!!!!

Hello all, this is , mom to age 11 and she also has AS. This is our

first time writing to the group. We are from Pennsylvania.

is exactly the same about food. She will only eat certain cheeses or

pizza from a certain place. It is really difficult to feed her at restaurants

and even with family, though they understand and don't mind fixing her something

she likes.

Hope to hear more about everyone soon.

Hey ,

Glad you came out of lurkdom :) My sons (2 and 4) won't eat veggies either

and I have tried numerous ways...Joe always finds them if I hide them.

However, one evening we were having dinner and they both decided to eat the

" broccoli trees " with ranch dip.....here they are muching away and both my dh

and I are sitting there with our mouths hanging down in shock! It doesn't

happen too often, but occasionally they will go for it. Meanwhile I give

them Vita Worms....sounds yummy doesn't it! They taste just like gummy worms

and at least they are getting the multiple vitamin.

Hi Johanna,

vita worms? I think my son anthony saw them and I thought they looked gross!

is 9 and has ADHD which does not seem to always be a mix for .

How do your kids get along? Does anyone have problems with a sib being

constantly mean to the AS child? I feel for . Basically she has no

backbone with and I guess that is why is carries over in the outside

world. He basically bosses her and part of me knows he is frustrated because we

do alot of running for therapy etc and part because there are no kids for him

and she is the only one here.

She will play for about 5 minutes and then feign an injury and go back to her

beloved books. I am concerned because we had her physical and she is on target

for height and weight. 72lbs and 4 ft 11 at 11 yrs old. the Dr. is worried for

the lack of physical activity so she suggested yoga and I purchased a yoga dvd

for her to do and I could do it along with her. In our family we all play

soccer and initally I had her try it and she really gave it a good shot.

Thanks everyone!

Both my kids are " book kids. " Getting them to do a sport has been nearly

impossible. In college, Tess (my 20 year old) did self defense and loved it. In

fact, she loved it soo much she went on and taught it to middle schoolers.

and I have just signed up for Aikido classes. Aikido is " a

non-competitive martial art that emphasizes the development of a calm mind,

relaxed body and a strong spirit. " We went once for two hours and we both loved

it. It was truly okay to be uncoordinated (both of us). We got help, both from

Sensei and from others in the class.

We're looking forward to the next class.

Wow after reading your post about self defense courses, I had looked into a

course in our new location for . I thought actually it would be good for

her just to have a way to defend herself but maybe it could be something more.

I also purchased a yoga tape that was recommended by a support group here in

Bucks County so maybe that will help her relax a little.

Peanut butter, I think, is relatively phenolic. But it is also a

very common allergen all by itself. And uncooked peanut butter (the

natural kind from smooshing up raw peanuts) may have natural enzyme

inhibitors in them. That probably contributes to them being a little

harder for some people to digest.

and ,

Concerning peanut butter--

I took all my kids off the regular peanut butter because I am convinced that

the hydrogenated fats in Skippy and the ordinary kind may be as harmful as any

allergy. There has been some discussion of the hydrogenated fats causing

seizures or behavior problems in some kids. That is difficult to prove but I

have found that my autistic spectrum daughter has done better once I made an

effort to get rid of all hydrogenated fat in her diet.

She has been on enzymes for 8 months and she is doing SO WELL with them. She

has really improved with enzymes. Getting hydrogenated fat out has been just

a minor adjustment to help her improve a bit more.

My health food store has been free of any hydrogenated fats for about 3 years

because they thought the scientific evidence is so clear that it is bad in SO

MANY ways. Now I am getting the message. DUH--I guess I just did not see

that it was a real problem untill I experimented myself.

This is probably more than you want to hear about simple peanut butter!

Sorry.

I think it would only be a problem if the child(ren) have a known allergy to

peanuts and/or other nuts. My children and husband are terribly allergic to

peanuts and tree nuts but tolerate the macadamia nut butter well and eat it on

rice crackers and rice cakes and toast.

Is natural, no additive peanut butter usually a problem food

for our kids? I'm leery about trying it as a challenge.

Yes, that hydrogenated fat is bad news. Now to shamelessly plug my brand of

pb -- Arrowhead Mills Organic Creamy is really really really good. It's made

with Valencia peanuts, with no added crap. We may have to test doing without

because of the phenols, and I'm seriously going to miss it.

I use Scudder peanut butter, ingredient: peanuts.

Cashew butter is probably a better choice for a challenge of nuts.

Or a peanut butter that is just " peanuts " if you specifically want to

challenge peanut butter.

Hi

Can anyone tell me if peanut butter is okay? I have seen it listed

as a food to avoid, whereas some articles do not mention it at all.

I was told peanuts & peanut butter are NOs because of their content

of aflatoxins, a carcinogenic mold. You can try almond butter which

is pretty good as a substitute.

is that salted peanut butter? the salt is supposed to help break down

some of the enzyme inhibitors which is why peanuts are salted as a

snack i guess.

'nourishing traditions' says that peanuts have to be soaked first to

remove the digestion inhibitors and i bet the peanut butter

manufacturers don't do that.

http://www.newtrendspublishing.com/SallyFallon/

check out the 'snacks' pdf

i would check that the salt did not contain any sodium

aluminosilicate in as a dryer.

i don't eat nuts at all.

Try giving them with Zyme Prime and No-Fenol enzymes. If that does

not work, you might need to remove them.

Thanks Dana and , I'll try that. I started the Zyme prime already, to

see if it makes a difference. I'll add the NF.

Unfortunately, he has a terrible aversion to the texture of meat. And so

the only protein he ever ate before this has been nut butter. Now we have a

fruit omelet he'll eat, so he's getting in several eggs a day, but that's

it.

In my kids' school they have a cafeteria table where all kids have to sit if

they are allergic to peanuts ....In my school, I teach Kindergarten and the

school nurse makes up a list of all allergies to everything from nuts to ant

bites.... I make the parents aware of the allergies in my class....one kid

cannot have red dye below #40, another cannot have oranges, another cannot have

chocolate, another certain nuts but peanuts are ok, another no pork, another no

peanuts...you get the drift....parties are still " do-able " though ..we are just

careful and the kids all look out for one another....

Teachers that don't wish to learn how to use the epipen are again in the wrong

profession...are you going to watch one of your students gasp for air????

Ask those same teachers if they'd hand a kid their inhaler?????? Of course,

they would....

Again, only my 2 cents for what it is worth!!!!!!!!! kathy TR NJ

> Hi Bee and All, Phyllis A. here just back from a 2 week trip to Florida. This

trip was challenging because my sister and her husband and there 2 year old son,

my adorable nephew, eat everything out of a box or bag. I spent most of the vaca

cooking. My sis works they have a beautiful home-top quality material things but

food quality means very little--my nephew has a wart rash on his belly that has

spread-Dr. call is mulluscum or something like that- he's had many antibiotics

in his little life along with tubes in ears. I pray hard for them.

+++Hi Phyllis. Welcome back from your vacation.

+++It is very sad about your nephew. Poor little guy. It's difficult to sit

back and watch how he eats and what your sister considers is food. That kind of

skin problem is called Molluscum Contagiosum, but regardless of what doctors

call it, it is caused by toxins and poor nutrition.

Bee, I had a lot of time to read...Eat Fat, Lose Fat was great. Ok, I'm on your

program 2 months now and progress is happening. I do not have a problem staying

away from sugar and for that I feel blessed. However, I love peanut butter! In

the back of the book, the 2 authors recommend 4 diff types. What do you think of

this-is this possible after we are healed? Why would they give 4 choices if is

is so toxic? Bee I trust your advice and I know you talk about peanuts and

pistachios containing mold. Just looking for your thoughts. I allowed myself a

cheat on my vaca and it was...pnut butter(one of their recommendations)

+++I don't know why they would recommend peanut butter in their book. Peanuts

contain two known strains of fungi, Aspergillus flavus and Aspergillus

parasiticus, that produce aflatoxins (mycotoxins), which are inherent in them

and cannot be removed. Aflatoxins are toxic and among the most carcinogenic

substances known.

+++Fungus grows in unhealthy plants, just like it does in humans. Fungus is the

organism in Nature that " cleans up " and it feeds off of fungi-type toxins

(mycotoxins). Fungus is common in grains, seeds and nuts that are genetically

modified.

+++In my opinion peanuts are not healthy for anyone to consume, so I think it is

better to have butter made from other kinds of nuts (properly soaked and dried

of course).

All the best, Bee
