Guest guest
Hello there. Today I ran accross an article discussing the success of chiropractic adjustments for children with apraxia. Has anybody tried this? It's probably just a bunch of bull, but you never know...... Thanks!!
Guest guest
Just my opinion - sure to tick someone off - but I would never never never never never take a child to a chiropractor for adjustments. Never. > > Hello there. Today I ran accross an article discussing the success of > chiropractic adjustments for children with apraxia. Has anybody tried > this? Guest guest
Just curious (and not at all ticked off) but how come? I had never considered that children might go to chiropractors (and to be honest it does seem kind of strange to me) but then I was chatting with a chiropractor socially and he said he adjusts babies with chronic ear infections. I was shocked but then did read some mention of this practice again in a parenting magazine. I have no idea what they do to help the ear infections, but thought I'd just mention it. > > > > Hello there. Guest guest
Seeing a chiropractor for apraxia makes sense to me. They know a lot more about vitamins and other supplements then a physician and also can test for metals. They also know ALOT about special diets, such as gluten free. My uncle is a chiropractor and shares his practice with a DAN doctor. He's never adjusted my son, but helped me find an omega 3 that would help my son. He was allergic to the first omega that I was giving him. He told me there has been a lot of new research about children with neurological issues and how chiropractors can help. Guest guest
I believe that going to a chiro is a choice that should be made by an adult. Because there are so many quacks out there - many chiros don't agree with regular adjustments of children - and because the risk is great, I don't believe in it for children. Too easy to be " sucked in " .... More (and yes, I realize that all these sites are pretty anti-chiros) http://www.chirobase.org/17QA/children.html http://www.chirobase.org/02Research/chirochild.html http://www.chirowatch.com/mp981201quinn-katz.html It's just my own personal opinion which I usually keep to myself, except someone asked. I know a handful of adults who have benefitted from chiropractic care, but I also know of a bunch who go regularly as a " preventative " . These chiros also sell them a bunch of stuff. I feel the same way about them as I did about the dermatologist who sold me " special shampoo " when I was losing too much hair. I got home and found it had all the same active ingredients as mine and I took it back. And called him money- grubbing. All this said, there are plenty of things out there that would seem to have no benefit to helping our kids that really does help. There's too much anecdotal knowledge of the GFCF diet helping, spinning therapy for SID, brushing, etc.. I just am not convinced. > > > > > > Hello there. Guest guest
Well, I don't know about chiropractic specifically for Apraxia. I'm sure it's one of those things where it would help some kids (if they were out in that area which I think is betwen c0-c1 and c1-c2). The chronic ear infections will clear up in about 50% of kids that see a chiropractor.... we weren't in that 50%. But in general I love chiropractic care, and my 2 yr old daughter and I go regularly. I take her in more frequently if she's sick or has an ear infection because being in alignment helps your immune system. If I'm getting sick and I get an adjustment and take care of myself for a day or two I don't get sick. I do think it's important to go to a chiropractor that specializes in kids/babies. You can go to icpa4kids.org to find one. I've been seeing a chiropractor since I was a little kid, but the guy we saw then wasn't all that gentle as chiropractors go. The Dr we see now is trained in pregnancy/babies/kids. She uses a little thing which delivers precise pressure to a specific spot so it's gentle. Catey's been seeing her since she was 2 months old, at the suggestion of our lactation consultant (she also does some cranial sachrial work and Catey had a slight bubble palate). Catey has only cried once, and that was a couple weeks ago when she had the worst ear infection of her life and the whole side of her neck was swolle/inflamed from the lymph nodes. Otherwise she loves going... she's recently started lying on the table like me, isntead of sitting in my lap. Most chiropractors are also very knowledgable about holistic and natural health and healing. Like she's suggested when to take more Vit C, or this herbal expectorant when she's been sick. Our Dr is natural to the point of not giving her daughter ibuprofen for teething, but we're not that serious about living naturally I guess. As long as you go to a Dr trained for kids I'd say go ahead and check it out - it definitely won't hurt anything, and if it helps the Apraxia then Yeah!!! Also our insurance covers 60 visits a year at 100%, so check with your insurance!! Crystal > > Hello there. Guest guest
My son has been going to a chiropractor since he was about 6 months old. We all go. We see a family chiropractor who focuses his practice on children and pregnant women. He also works a lot with children who have things like ADHD or autism. Many parents come to him as a last resort because the traditional medicall stuff just doesn't help. I believe in chiropractor and think there are a lot of misconceptions about it. However, its not a cure all. Its good at correcting subligations (sp?). And if a problem is caused or effect by a subligation it will get better. But if it isn't caused by one it won't. I do beleive that if the spine and nervese system is healthy and free of obstructions, the body can work and function better- and heal itself of its various problems much easier. As an intereting note, our chiropractor is into natural health stuff- obviously. He taught me about the omega fatty acids and adviced me to start my son on fish oils along time ago. All of this was before we knew Garrett has problems with his speech and that fish oils could help with it. -Dawn in land

Guest guest
I take my son to a chiropracter and he gets adjusted, nutritional testing & suppliments and allergy clearings. We have seen amazing results. Our DC has the same training and knowledge described in the previous message. BTW, a child is not adjusted in the same fashion as an adult. > > Seeing a chiropractor for apraxia makes sense to me. Guest guest
We took our then 4 year old to a chiropractor - after two adjustments he slept through the night for the first time in his life and has ever since (he is now 6). We also saw unbelievable improvements in his allergies. I never would have believed this if someone had just told me it could happen and I didn't see it for myself! Jaeden will now ask to go when his allergies are bad or his neck doesn't feel right. Mom to Jaeden in Rochester, MN
Guest guest
Our chiropractor adjusted and told me to rub our daughter's lower back for constipation. It wasn't a cure-all (we still have to make sure we get enough fruit, etc), but it definitely made a huge improvement to the constipation!! Even if you're anti-chiropractor rubbing the lower back on either side of the spine might help! (since I know so many of us struggle with the constipation).
