It could be because of the merger, but I think it is more because of

individual servers. Of all the mail lists, I think onelist is the best.

Some mail lists have a several hour delay before the post shows up. Onelist

is almost instant, MOST of the time. Time of day and net congestion are

also contributing factors.

And I've seen lots of replies to messages I've never seen. Heard

from another list that the merger is causing some trouble with some

email addresses - I seem to be perpetually unlucky in that

department, so now I'm trying to read on the web. Thank goodness we

have ethernet here! I'd be waiting forever on the 14.4 modem at home!

Susie,

It must be the merger and I am lucky, although I've written a few posts that

haven't appeared yet. hmmmmmmm

I have an Enbrel question for the expert!!!!!!

What is the difference between the way Enbrel inhibits TNF and Remicade

inhibits it? I THINK that Remicade filters the blood, and Enbrel inhibits

it's production. Am I close or way off base? I haven't found any

articles that explain it in laymen's terms.

How are you feeling? Is your chaos over?

a,

I just hope this problem goes away - I am tired of trying to figure out what

people are talking about!

I'll have to look at some articles on Remicade to understand how it works, but I

believe they both do the same thing - soak up excess TNF. Enbrel does not

inhibit TNF production (though I know of a still experimental drug that does)

and I doubt Remicade does either. The difference between them I suspect is more

like Remicade is a bigger molecule so has to go IV rather than SubQ. I'll read

a little more about it though and see if I'm right. I'm very excited for

having such good results!!

I am feeling ok RA-wise. I had tonsilitis last week and am still recovering

from that - amazing how the RA leaves me alone when I'm really sick, even

without Enbrel. Dr. wanted me off because I had a really nasty case - took one

look down my throat and said " eeewwww!! " How professional!! LOL Chaos

continues, but I'm just staying in my cubicle and keeping low!

Hope you are feeling well - saw your post re: MTX. As much as I hate taking it,

it does work so well with Enbrel, and I am starting to feel like my RA is under

control again. I hate the nausea I get for a couple of days after I take it,

but I can live with it, and being able to walk more pain-free now is very nice!

Susie,

Ouch! Sore throats are no fun. I hope it goes away soon so you can get

back on Enbrel! I've gone off of it a few times for respritory infections,

as a precaution. Better to be safe than sorry.

Remicade is interesting because it is only 6 treatments a year rather than

injections twice a week. I wonder why they don't prescribe it more often?

Rest that throat! The questions can wait! Keep a low profile in your

cubical and try to catch some z's.

a,

Too late, I already answered - you got me wondering! I am almost

over the tonsilitis but hubby is getting sick now. Just a few more

days and I can have my Enbrel back.

I think Drs. are just being very cautious. It was hard at first to

get them to prescribe Enbrel too. I'll ask my RD (who is normally

quite up to date on drugs) what he thinks of it and if he's

prescibing it. Enbrel and Remicade are different kinds of treatment

than what they're familiar with - we're not the only ones used to

popping pills.

Susie,

Now I am doubting which drug I asked my doctor about, Prosorba or Remicade.

I believe that it was Prosorba that was last resort. When I go back, I'll

have to see what he says about Remicade. I guess we should be glad that

the doctors are cautious. I've been on Enbrel for over a year, and it's

been a good one compared to pre-Enbrel. I hope more people are able to get

it now that we're doing ok on it.

I hope you and hubby feel better.

a,

I'm guessing you asked your doctor about Prosorba. I would sure hope

that it's the last resort because they do filter your blood through

it and I can't imagine that just anyone will want that. Seems like

it would be pretty hard on a body much the way kidney dialysis is. I

think it's a wonderful technology but I'm in no hurry to try it!

Now I'm really going to have to read more about it - but after I get

some work done!
