So I just got back from the new gyno.GOD she's young! Lol

She did the exam and cultured me. She says everything looks normal (story of my life). She said there is a slight white discharge (sorry) and it might be yeast (I'm on 2 yeast meds as it is) but she said she's not treating it until she gets the culture back.I was SO sore during the exam. I told her about the cramps and she said it sounds more gastrointestinal and I told her it's definitely vaginal. I mean, you CAN tell the difference. She said it doesn't even look inflamed which I can't figure out.I told her Dr. Knatz (my old gyno) thinks I might have vulvo vestibulitis and she said it could be. I asked her then why the cramps and she said it could be vaginal as well. (Is that possible?) They have a nurse practitioner in their Tempe office who's a vulvar specialist and she referred me to her and they gave me an appt for next Tuesday to see her. We'll see what happens. I go through this all the time with the same symptoms. I can't imagine what it is.

In the meantime I'm crampy and sore and feel all swollen and irritated inside and out. Does anyone have a clue??

Hi Ivy:

Sorry you are suffering. My daughter had cramps and vaginal burning, especially when she had her period. When I took her to the doctor, she had horrible pain on contact from the exam. It did turn out to be a GI issue. She has Crohns disease.

I had a hysterectomy in 1984 so it's not my period, lol.

She had vaginal burning from a GI issue? That's interesting....thanks for letting me know.

I'm sorry she has Crohn's but at least she got a diagnosis and hopefully is getting treatment.

Hugs-

The vaginal burning was due to the ulcers in her rectum. After she got treatment, it went away.

I hope you find your answers.

Hi Ivy, Sorry the visit wasn't much help, but maybe the one you will see next week will be able to help. Keep in mind that just because she said everything looks normal doesn't mean she knows what she's looking for... ;-) Besides, you can look completely 'normal' and still have pain. I wonder if you could have a rare strain of yeast. (?) The V Book might be a good one to refer to. I remember she listed different kinds of infections that I'd never heard of. I don't know what to tell you about the cramping...I sure wish I did, though.Take Care,Chelle--- On Fri, 1/30/09, ivy wrote

Thanks Sherri and thanks Chelle.

What I'm really worried about is something like pelvic inflammatory disease or something. I'm also nervous because back when I was in my 20s I had an infection that came and went undiagnosed and left a huge amount of adhesions. It started as cramps similar to this and eventually wrapped itself around all of my female organs and then attached itself to the front of my stomach. I was doubled over in pain constantly and it took the doctors close to 3 years to figure out what was wrong. I can't tell you how many doctors I went to. Finally they did a laparoscopy and then eventually a total hysterectomy at 24. I've always had gyno problems, I don't know why. I would hate to go through all that again so I'm very nervous about something like that. I've been sick to my stomach with worry and depressed about it all night.

At the time the doctor I went to told me I was lucky because it was beginning to attach itself to my bowels but he was able to cut it off. He said if it ever came back that's where it would go so I'm scared about that.

I'm not a happy camper tonight, the cramps are really bad.

Hi Ivy:

Have you had a CAT Scan of your abdomen and pelvis? Maybe the adhesions are back somewhere else, like your colon which I guess would be considered your bowels. My daughters cramps were from a blockage in her ileum which is part of the small intestines. Do you have an internist you can go to?

That's exactly what I'm afraid of Sherri. I'm wondering though, if that were the case, would I be having the vaginal burning and itching? I don't think so.

I do have an internist but I'm thinking a gyno should be able to pick that up, that's who picked it up last time.

Adhesions don't show up on an ultrasound or CT scan unfortunately. The only way they can see them is if they open you up. I had to have 3 surgeries for it, back in the 80's, the last of which was a total hysterectomy.

Hi:

My daughter had the burning, no itching. She had ulcers in her rectum, but her colon and small intestines had chronic inflammation with the blockage in her ileum.

My brother just had a CAT scan yesterday, because of pain and nausea. We are waiting to see if it shows anything. I thought they were looking for excessive scar tissue due to a motorcycle accident he had 10 years ago. But, if adhesions don't show up, maybe scar tissue wouldn't either. His next step is to a GI doctor.
