Guest guest
My two doctors (my primary and my gyno) diagnosed me by process of elimination. They're both sure I have it. For quite awhile the diet controlled it well. Now I'm not so sure. I also went to a uro last year and he didn't do a cytoscopy either but based on my symptoms and the fact that the diet controls my symptoms he also diagnosed me with IC. I'm seeing a new Uro next month though and I think I'm going to have the cytoscopy to confirm it (ONLY if he can knock me out for it!) but in a lot of cases even a cytoscopy can't definitively diagnose IC. Guest guest
Compared to the potassium challenge test the cystoscopy with hydrodistension is much more accurate at diagnosing IC. It is also important that during this procedure (based on what I have read elsewhere as well) that a biopsy done at the same time can confirm a diagnosis of IC. Cystoscopy with hydrodistension (and this should definitely be done with the patient being put under, especially important for those that also have chronic pain issues in general) is the gold standard for diagnosing IC. Guest guest
I think this is a hard one...I have had a cysto/hydro to diagnose IC, but I'm not so sure about the accuracy. I've read that 'normal' bladders can have those pin-point hemorrhages. The hydro was horrible for me...it made my pain so much worse. Looking back, I wish I'd never had one. I do know that several women (and men) have benefited greatly from pelvic floor physical therapy. Tight pelvic floor muscles can refer pain to the bladder, but I realize this is not the case for everyone. It's worth looking into, though.
