Icky tasting multi vitamin

My mom's chiropractor (he's great with the testing but not so great

with kids, so he's not OUR chiropractor, but we went to him for some

testing without an adjustment) suggested my daughter take Immuno

support from standard proces. It's pretty much like a multi vitamin

but it's especially good for the immune system. Anyway, it's not

geared for kids, so it's just capsules with powder in them. The

powder is brown, so I mixed it with milk and added chocolate, and it

wasn't horrible but it tasted like really gross carob. By the time

she got near the bottom she wouldn't drink anymore and I tasted it and

it tasted worse than at first (I'm assuming more vitamins and less

chocolate in the bottom). Does anyone have any suggestions for taking

gross stuff? My daughter's usually good about taking medicines, but

this isn't really in medicine form, plus it's not good. Thanks for

any advice!

Crystal

We are making daily fresh fruit juice smoothies + ice (bluberries,

strawberries, apples etc, and dumping a powdered multivit in the

mix. It has been the only successful way we've been about to " hide "

it. The stuff REALLY is nasty. Not sure what to do in the winter

when there are no fresh berries...I guess frozen. -

What if you just mixed it with some straight chocolate syrup and

then had her quickly take if off a spoon? She could chase it with

some chocolate milk or some other beverage to get the taste out of

her mouth. Or maybe try mixing with chocolate pudding?

Have you tried teaching your daughter to swallow capsules? We taught

my daughter when she was two to avoid the nasty taste of vitamins.

Brainchild Nutritionals sells a multi vitamin and also minerals that

don't taste bad at all (they are in a flavored liquid).

How much does she have to take? For my son's ADHD meds we have capsules that I

can pull apart and I get a spoonful of pudding, yogurt or apple sauce and make a

hole in the middle. I put the meds in the hole and cover it. He take all the

meds in one spoonful.

I've got an idea the works great in my house. I open the caps into

a small paper cup and add a little juice (i even use prune as we've

got a constipation problem). I have one of those wonderful little

droppers sold for infants at the grocery store it holds a teaspoon.

I mix the powder with the tip of the dropper then suck it up and

down to help mix it better. Suck it up into the dropper and VOILA

give it to him.

My kiddo sits in a high chair, and he got used to the yucky taste

pretty quick. Just get it past the lips, don't make a big deal of it

and he/she won't. And it only amounts to a few teaspoons full in

the long run. It's quick and I know he's getting it all. And the

bottom of the glass thing is a non issue.

Try it! It's the best technique ever! My boy takes multiple

suppliments this way, all day, every day.

I wanted to thank everyone for all of the suggestions! I've been

trying to mix them with a large quantity of stuff to dilute it more,

but I think you're all right in putting it in a smaller quantity so

it's over and done with. I tried pudding and got her to take one

bite. I hadn't had time to check in until now, so I'll try the other

stuff. She does love smoothies, and she's good about medicine so

maybe if I present it as a medicine in a dropper she'd do better.

I'll keep trying all of these before giving up! Thanks!
