Guest guest
90# on your telephone I dialed ' 0 ' and asked the operator who did confirmed that this was correct so please pass it on. PASS ON TO EVERYONE YOU KNOW I received a telephone call last evening from an individual identifying himself as an AT & T Service technician (could also be Telus) who was conducting a test on the telephone lines. He stated that to complete the test I should touch nine( 9 ), zero( 0 ), the pound sign ( # ), and then hang up. Luckily, I was suspicious and refused. Upon contacting the telephone company, I was informed that by pushing 90#, you give the requesting individual full access to your telephone line, which enables them to place long distance calls billed to your home phone number. I was further informed that this scam has been originating fro m many local jails/prisons DO NOT press 90# for ANYONE ! The GTE Security Department requested that I share this information with EVERYONE I KNOW. urban legands says #09 or 90# either way they got you. Jerry After checking with Verizon they said it was true, so do not dial 90# for anyone! PLEASE HIT THAT FORWARD BUTTON AND PASS THIS ON. Guest guest
folks in the jails do this a lot, often the call comes from a penitentiary. When we lived in Florida my caller id frequently came up " Broward County Jail " or something like that. I just didn't answer. The scam used to be that they would tell you they were an inmate and tell you there was a family emergency and could you help them place their call by pressing 90#. Some unsuspecting person would do it and end up with a million dollar phone bill. I guess " I'm with AT & T " is the newest version of this. It's my understanding that if you get taken by the scam you have no recourse because you participated by pressing 90#. Even if you were tricked into doing it they still hold you responsible for the bills.
