Hi ,

I am not sure what all the abbreviations are myself, but I can tell

you the ones I know:

dh - dear husband (I think)

mil/bil etc - mother-in-law, brother-in-law, etc.

cd - cycle day

bf - boyfriend

hsg - dye test used to check the validity of your tube

hcg - hormone levels

ep - ectopic preg.

pr - pregnant

bw - blood work

u/s - ultrasound

ttc - trying to conceive

af - aunt flow (your period)

I might of missed a few, but it gives you a general idea. I am

going for the HSG in December. I have been ttc since last sept. and I

have given up on the natural method so one of the first steps in

fertility treatment is the dye test. Clomis is a drug that helps you

o - ovulate. That is probally what they will put me one if the dye

test is doesn't show any abnormalities. Some women have been

discussing their HCG levels which indicates if you are pregnant or

ovulating.(Is this right ladies?)

I was seen a week after my surgery (I also had my tube removed) for

a followup and then two weeks later to have the stiches removed. The

dr told me I could start ttc as soon as I was ready. I was also told

I didn't need to see him again until my annual. So there is nothing

abnormal about what your dr said. I hope this info helps and again

welcome to the group.

No questions are silly. I need to have b/w (blood work) done before

I go for the HSG to make sure I am not currently pr. With, my ep, I

didn't even know I was pr. In fact, I bled for 4 weeks before I got

help. I missed a couple a b/c pills a few years ago and I had af for

three weeks. Anyway, when I went in they did an u/s, told me I was

and wasn't pr, and rushed me to the hospital where I had surgery the

next morning. I lost my left tube. They never came back after the

surgery for b/w and the only time I had the blood work done is for

the fertility tests. I was released from the hospital 24 hrs after

the surgery and was back to work 3 weeks later. I went to Vegas 10

days after the surgery and even went on a thrill ride (not the

smartest thing I ever did, but I had saved all year for this trip and

I was going to have a good time even if it killed me, which it almost

did (LOL). I was told I could have a normal pr and delivery. I had

the surgery July 2000, and I still have the scar, it's not bad

though. It's faded quite a bit since. My bf(boyfriend) had double

knee surgery in 98 and his scars are just as bad as there were before

the surgery. I did use vitamin E lotion to minimize the scarring. It

I don't know what kind of surgery I had but I was cut like you would get cut to

have a c-section and I have a long scar about 6-7 inches. If I wait 5 years I

could deliver normally but anytime before that I have to have a c-section. I

guess everyones surgery is differnet. Did anyone have to stay in the hospital, I

was there for 5 days.

Hi Casie,

I'm sorry about your loss. You have found a wonderful group of women here.

I had a c-section cut with my ectopic too and my dr. told me I could still

try for a vaginal birth when i get pregnant. Also I had a previous c-section

with my daughter so that makes two cuts and two dr.'s have both said I can

try again vaginally. The scar does get lighter as time goes on. Before my

ectopic preg. I never paid any attention to my scar. Its only been 3 months

since my surgery so it is still red but it will fade ..

I've never heard wait five years...

ps... what does df mean???

None of your questions are silly...ask away. I did have surgery and have a

scar about 3-4 inches long. I know it is a sad reminder of what happened to us.

I am sorry. For the longest time I wouldn't look in the mirror at it. I don't

know but I wasn't told I would have to have a c-section next time around. My

surgery seemed to go ok. I had problems with my bladder after the surgery but

other than that I was fine. Please take care of yourself and just try and take

one day at a time. M

Casie,

Most surgeries are laparoscopy done pretty much with 3 1 inch insicions,

however it sounds like you had the same as I did I forget what the proper name

is but it started out as a laparoscopy and ended up with the 8 inch insicion

across my lower abdomen and one in my belly button and one above each (almost)

hip and one more anbout 3 inches below my belly button.....I was told that after

one year of being healed I could have a normal vaginal delivery but that if I

had to have a c section they would use the same scar. I also was in the hosp 5

days and was almost kept another but my mom a nurse and my hubby said that they

wouldnt leave my side so....I was allowed to go ahead and leave after 5 days. I

was on bed rest for around 3 weeks and was light duty for about 2 more, I have

not gone back to work for health and ttc reasons. The blood work they did in

the hosp is to make sure you are not still losing blood from the surgery, make

sure there is no infection and that your hcg is dropping and originally to blood

type you so that if you need blood they can have the right type on hand.

Never feel your questions are silly!!! As a matter of fact I bet every one you

asked has been asked by someone else here at one time or another!! and if you

dont ask you wont know!!!! Feel free to ask away and ramble off about anything

we all do that quite frequently!!!

It sound like you had the same type of surgery as I have had. My scar

is 6 inches long and low enough that I could still where a bikini

lol. When I was 6, I had a double hernia and they cut in the same

place. Still, I can have children the natural way if I ever conceive.

I was only in the hospital from Tuesday night when I was admitted to

Thursday morning, when they released me. A total of 36 long hours.

Casie ~ I am not sure if I mentioned in my earlier

post but I was in the hospital for 6 days. The

surgery is generally referred to as a laparotomy.

Everything else they do (salpingectomy, salpingostomy

so on falls under that).

I'm pretty sure the procedure you are talking about is a laparotomy. More

invasive than a laparoscopy but not quite as drastic as a C-section.

Hi, everyone! Happy New Year. I have been on this listing for about a week or

so and I have a couple of questions.. I hope they aren't silly.. On some of

your signatures, you have numbers _/_/_ What do they mean? I am thinking it

is how much you have lost or have to lose?

And here is the oddest question of all.. I know it will sound weird so here goes

anyway.. ;o) When I am working out on target, my legs and arms get really

itchy Is this normal? I have always been this way, I have decided to gather up

the courage to ask about it here..My sister is a fitness junkie and I have asked

her and her reply is that I am just weird..( I know she is just kidding~ she has

never heard of it before either..) Anyone??

Tammy, I get the itchiness sometimes too! I think it might be from

sweating, your skin changes. Sometimes mine gets red as well. As long as

you are not getting hives, I would not worry about it! I hope this helps. I

started on January7 of 2005 and have lost 77 to date. 5 to go!

I list in my signature: start weight/current weight/goal weight

I would do a search online for the itchy question. I actually think I just

read something about this in maybe Fitness magazine? I'm sure if you search for

it, you'll find some info. I'd be interested in the answer, so be sure to post

it to the group. I had a boyfriend in college that used to break out in hives

when he went out in the cold, so I'm sure it's maybe related to how your body

reacts to your temp. going up...not sure...just a theory.

Let us know what you find....or maybe you'll find your answer among our

experts here on this board.

Thank you Kerri I am glad I am not alone! They aren't hives and it goes away

when I am done working out. A huge congratulations on your weight loss! Keep

up the great work! You are a true inspiration! I have 65 to lose. I am so

glad I found this list!!

Regarding the itchy question:

i noticed my legs and arms got itchy when i was working out in the cold

outside, particular where i was getting hit with wind. i made a habit

of slathering on lotion before walking in the cold, and that really

seemed to help me and my walking partner.
