That is a scary thought. LOL!

Well, most people think that the stories I tell about what goes on around here I

am making up. Well, I know people here believe me.

and I were chatting last night and comapring notes on what our houses

are like. See, my husband (who I am totaly convinced is paranoid and has no

clue of reality) thinks that our house is the one like this. He refuses to

believe that this is NORMAL for a house with austic kids. I mean, the house

that he grew up in his mom was an obsessive compulsive cleaner. She still is.

The woman would have a heart attack if she came in our house. So thinks

that every house is supposed to be as clean as his moms and he stresses out that

it isn't. I don't think it would ever happen. The only time the house stays

clean is when the kids are sleeping. Currently we have BBQ sauce on the ceiling

(no idea how it got there) and wet toliet paper bits that have dried there on

the bathroom ceiling. It goes on. He stresses out about everything that

everyone here finds pefectly normal.

All I know is that felt better after he was sitting here while I was

personally asking if this or that went on in her house for him. LOL!

can be such a goob.

He asked me to do an informal survey here on how many peoples houses were a

disaster. I told him, after the Flylady/Martha discussions I could honestly say

most of them. Probably all of them except for Kris's house because she has OCD

and cleans all the time (My MIL is an obsessive compulsive cleaner, it has

become a joke around here). He thought I was kidding.

Disaster, yeppers. I currently have peanut butter on the walls, thousands of

little toy cars on the floor in the family room, the kitchen is, well... it

needs a bit of work, but the living room has been struck by a tornado, bikes,

strings, a mixer, and all kinds of huge toys that Buster throws out. Welcome him

to reality.

two kids and still had a nice house. Hey, it wasn't my fault that she

couldn't manage anything in her life (I mean this seriously about her). She

So what is your secerete to a clean house?

I mean, my kitchen is totaly trashed. I have a child here refusing to do her

chorse. My living room is covered with kid stuff (I don't count that really), I

have all the clean laundry in my room on the floor (this is how does

laundry), my bathroom is gross. Ok, it really isn't bad, but for a bathroom and

by my standards its gross. The kids will not clean their room. The front room

is covered in kid stuff.

Hows that

say most of them. Probably all of them except for Kris's house

To start with, I no longer work full time and I only have 2 kids! I also

have a somewhat OCD husband. We constantly remind to put something

away (when we catch him) before he gets something else out, otherwise he

gets overwhelmed and can't even begin to put things away. I also put his

stuff away when ever I find a bunch of items out in his room. Whe have

those storage carts with lots of drawers in the boys closets, so most

'collections' have their own place to be. doesn't really get much

out. He's content to stay wrapped up with his GameBoy or the computer.

Both kids will clear away their dishes after they eat and after each meal,

we try to make sure everything goes into the dishwasher (this is a perk of a

kitchen remodel 2 years ago!). I put the clean dishes away each morning

while making the boys lunches and breakfast.

Shoes are taken off at the door. We put a hamper in 's room for his

dirty clothes, but still have to remind him to put his clothes in it. Both

boys make their own beds up (pretty well) each morning. We have a spot for

shoes and boots by the back door and a rack for coats to be hung on.

Laundry is sometimes sorted and left in piles in the basement, but usually

washed in a day, and sometimes I don't always get the clean clothes put away

right away, but I fold them as they come out of the dryer and hang the

things that need hanging.

I have a light colored kitchen and dining room floor, so I rarely let it go

more than 3 days without sweeping or vacuuming it (lot's of dog hair). Our

carpet doesn't show dirt but I try to vacuum it once a week at the very

least. Mark always cleans the bathroom sink and counter top when he shaves,

and I do the tub once or twice a month (we shower downstairs most of the

time).

Oh, and when Mark loads the dishwasher, he also wipes down all of the

counters and the sink. He doesn't like water spots on the chrome, so I

still have bright sparkling faucets. As I said, he's a bit excessive in

cleaning when he does it.

Now, Mark will also help out with laundry and vacuuming, bathing kids,

etc.., so I have a bit more help than most people do. Just don't do a white

glove test on me, I probably won't pass it :-)

And I do at least 2 piles of papers: schoolwork and things to read/do.

I have been trying to keep my schedule so that I'm only working 3 days a

week, but I am also managing my Aunts health care (long story) which right

now involves hospital/nursing home visits, Dr. visits/calls and paying her

bills. Dad will be traveling soon and I will be doing his bills while he's

gone and handling his mail. And I'll be doing both their taxes and ours

soon. And I take the boys to three therapys a week.

well yes, sue, but you had a cleaning business, i would think your house would

be clean! i wouldn't expect it, but i would hope it

Depends on your point of view. I've seen houses better

than mine and worse than mine. Sometime ago Doug and I

sat down and listed all the household chores and then

devided then up. That made quite a difference. And

having an autistic kids does challenge your inner

Martha alot. Most moms do not have to fix holes in the

drywall daily or scrape poop off the shower door. And

if anyone doesn't like the way I keep my house, they

can leave.

I don't have an inner Martha.

I killed her.

I have never been a total neat freak but our house was much cleaner before

children. The day Savannah was mobile it all went downhill.

See, I think messy is a relative term.

My husband grew up in a house with an obsessive compulsive cleaner as a mother.

That woman has the only bathroom floor that I would eat off of. What does that

tell you. judges everything by his moms house. I want to smack him. By

those standards nothing but kids toys on the floor would be a mess...

<<Waving my hand>> Yes my house is a complete disaster at least twice

a week. I manage to get it cleaned up and can keep it relatively

clean about twice a week. The rest of the time it's somewhere in

between. Today we are on disaster recovery.

If I had 7 kids, my house would be condemned by the board of health.

Be sure and tell that. (I would HAVE to have a housekeeper, no

doubt about it)

Ok, just looking around the family room .... and this is really clean

actually ... on the floor: markers & crayons & coloring book in one

pile, wooden train set in another pile, box of chalk, upside down mixing

bowl from the kitchen, Mr. Potatohead pile, coasters, all kinds of lint

& stuff on the carpet that hasn't been vacuumed in I don't know how

long. On my desk: piles & piles of stuff on my hutch/computer/beside my

monitor, piles of stuff on top of my husband's hutch.

My kitchen is not too bad but my floor is constantly dirty because we

enter there, we have perpetual snow, and my flooring is very old so it

holds everything.

Dining room is now a therapy room and holds swing, tramp, tent, table,

heavy afghan (weighted blanket), bean bag chair.

Living room is actually pretty clean because we did emergency pickup for

the Superbowl yesterday. But usually it has a selection of toys, needs

to be vacuumed, baskets of laundry in various states of folding, afghans

& comforters for cozy TV watching, hearth & carpet right around the

woodburning stove has dirt from the wood.

My bedroom ... no matter how often I pick up that damn room ... I still

can't walk to the closet without stepping over or on things. Right now

it has a basket of laundry to be put away that has been there for 2

weeks, a HUGE pile of dirty laundry, a stack of totes we just bought, a

suitcase that hasn't fully been unpacked from last weekend, 2 totes with

summer clothes, and a footlocker I just removed from my daughter's room.

My bathrooms are pretty clean right now because of the superbowl party

.... but usually there is a pile of dirty clothes from the kids in there.

My laundry room ... forget it ... you take your life into your hands

when you go in there.

There ... my house is NOT FLYLady perfect, not in the least.
