Hi,

My 2 1/2 year old son is diagnosed with very mild PDD, but I am

wondering if it is apraxia he has instead. I have requested " The Late

Talker " from the library and should get it this week, but I couldn't

wait.

About my son: He is non-verbal apart from babbling - Nana, Mama, Dada

etc. He also attempts animal sounds such as oo for moo, eh for neigh.

If asked a question, he usually will answer with " pa " , almost as if

he thinks it's the answer I'm looking for. He has low muscle tone,

for ex. his wave is just a flap of his arm. He has only begun eating

independently with a spoon, he has an immature run and he has never

liked playing with things like playdoh. As for his social

interaction, he certainly does not avoid situations and will often

seek out interactions with familar people, including other children

at daycare. He especially loves books and being read to. He does not

have a problem with change either. He started at a new daycare in

January and fit right in, no problems. He doesn't have a problem with

clothing textures, but does have issues with certain food textures.

He use to gag a lot as an older infant and he use to spit up a lot as

a young infant. He use to flap his arms, but recently this has

changed to jumping up and down.

Just wondering if this sounds like a child with apraxia or if the

diagnosis of very mild PDD is probably correct.

Thanks,
