Guest guest
Hi , I was wonering if you could guide me. We are just about finished with Jackies last of Omega 3, 6, 9, Junior. I am going to Vitamin Shoppe and planning on getting ProEfa. Now she is getting 4 capsules of the Junior. I am thinking that maybe I will give her the proefa and also the EPA. Where should I start her on these? Im thinking that 2 caps of the ProEfa will be equivalent to what she is getting now. But how much Epa should I start with. We havent seen any Dramatic improvements lately. Just overall moderate progress since the first surge when I increased to 2 caps 2x per day. What do you suggest? I think we are at a plateau... Thanks in advance for your help Trish
Guest guest
Dear Trish, You have probably seen some of 's posts about the 2:1 ratio of EFA:EPA. That is what I would go by - and what we are seeing good results with. There may be a better mix out there, but no one knows what that is. So that would be 2 capsules of pro-EFA (or omega 3/6/9 - which is the same formula but sometimes cheaper), plus 1 EPA capsule. Let me know what you see. I'm not sure if there are more benefits to doubling the EFA by going to twice a day, or including EPA sooner. But it seems at least in ph, that the EPA really made the largest difference in progress - getting clarity and increased words strung togehter. - [ ] ...changing dose... Guest guest
Thank you for replying, I got Jackie regular omega 3-6-9, (not junior), Because they didnt have ProEfa at Vitamin shop, and she didnt like them. She actuallly enjoys " popping " the little ones! So if it costs more, and it works I dont care! I started giving her one EPA along with 4 juniors. 2 Juniors with breakfast and 2 juniors and the epa with lunch. But I am definately seeing behavior issues. I am definately willing to wait this out and see if it works, but it is torture right now! She has started hitting and pulling hair!!!! My 2 older ones are loosing patience along with me!!! Trying to keep it all under control, hoping that this will pass. Do you think it will pass given some time? If positive results will follow, I am more than happy to just do the best I can. Have you heard of this before when adding the EPA? Thanks again! Guest guest
Try giving the 4 juniors at the same time with the EPA. has explained to me the importance of the 2:1 ratio...and right now you are giving 1:1 EFA:EPA - with a little more EFA later. It might make a difference. It took about 2 weeks for the behavior to lessen - and its totally not a problem now for us. But it did seem to come with the EPA. It was so hard teasing out what was normal 2 vs. effects from EPA. BUt it did pass - whatever it was related too, and we saw enormous gains in speech and coordination. It was bumping the EPA that got up to the 5-7 word sentences. - [ ] Re: ...changing dose... Guest guest
Did you see improvement in articulation also? I have definitely seen improvements in " communication " , but with all this talking I barely understand what she is saying. I am wondering if there is more I can do about the articulation. Therapy definitely works, but articulation is definitely a huge issue right now. I will try giving her all the oils in the morning. I will keep you posted of her progress. I think I read on this board that carnaware? may help with articulation. I am not ready to add something else right now. I will wait out the EPA, but I definately have that in my thoughts. Guest guest
I've also been considering carnaware - but trying to get a metabolic work-up at Stanford. Feel like I'll have more guidance once that's complete. Still seeing benefits from the omegas, so not feeling pressed to try anything else new at the moment. When we started the EFA - impact was greatest on coordination, but also on imitation of words and sounds he had never tried before. New words came quickly, and then he started stringing 2-3 together. Very difficult to understand though. When we added the EPA, we started to get clarity. But also in early Jan, we increased the ST sessions from 2X week to 3 X a week, and started OT. So I think its all coming together with benefits from every angle. The clarity came though after weeks of consistent improvement. But he's still difficult to understand. I can now understand many of the 2-3 word sentences...but the longer ones definitely get lost. [ ] Re: ...changing dose... Did you see improvement in articulation also? Guest guest
Hi there, Did I respond to this already? I was out of town, and can't remember. Add 1 pro-EPA capsule to each dose, so 2 EFA + 1 EPA given twice a day. I bet you see another surge. It does seem to level off once the initial surge hits. I found an amazing increase over about 2 weeks, then a leveling off. Hope it works for you. Let me know how it goes. - [ ] ...changing dose... Hi , I was wonering if you could guide me. Guest guest
HELLO: I JUST JOINED THIS SUPPORT GROUP YESTERDAY AND AM AT A LOSS. MY GRANDSON JARED HAS BEEN DIAGNOSED WITH SPEECH APRAXIA. HIS BEHAVIOR PROBLEMS RIGHT NOW ARE ALMOST UNCONTROLLABLE. THEY SAY FOOD ALLERGIES ARE CAUSING THE TEMPER TANTRUMS. HE HAS JUST STARTED AN INTENSE SPEECH THERAPY AT A SCHOOL 5 MORNINGS A WEEK. I CLICKED ONTO YOUR E MAIL AND SEE THE EFA AND EPA. I DON'T KNOW WHAT THAT IS. SOME OF THE E MAILS TALK ABOUT FISH OIL....IF YOU HAVE THE TIME PLEASE JUST TELL ME WHAT EFA AND EPA STAND FOR AND ARE YOU USING FISH OIL AND WHERE DO WE FIND IT. IS THERE A SPECIFIC KIND WE SHOULD LOOK FOR. I APPRECIATE ANY TIME YOU CAN GIVE ME. THANK YOU. ALSO JARED'S BABY SISTER IS 15 MONTHS OLD. SHE ONLY SAYS, NIGHT NIGHT AND STOP. ISN'T THIS ALSO A LITTLE UNUSUAL. THE DR SAYS SHE IS A SLOW TALKER BECAUSE SHE IS INTIMIDATED BY JARED'S TEMPER TANTRUMS. SOUNDED STRANGE TO ME. SHOULDN'T THEY BE PAYING MORE ATTENTION TO JENNA TOO. Guest guest
Hi there, we all know how stressful and crazy it can feel when you first get confirmation that something is really wrong. My first piece of advice is to run, don't walk, to the nearest and Noble (or other boookstore) and get a copy of 's book " The Late Talker " is will provide lots of insight into all your questions. I know it is available through www.bn.com (that is where I ordered it). The EFA and EPA are types of fish oils, specifically Omega fatty acids that we are using as a dietary supplement for our children. For some reason theses fatty acids help our apraxic kids learn to talk. There is much conjecture as to why but as you will see from this listserv most don't care why - they just know it works. hugs Martha --------------------------------- Messenger with Voice.
