Guest guest
It's been a while since I've done a herniated disk surgery. The doctor dictates " MRI shows a large herniated disk at 4-5 on the left " Early in the report he specifies L4-5 but here he does not. So my question is, do I have this transcribed properly? Thanks Pamela M-TEC Grad Newbie - 3rd month
Guest guest
I always put disc not disk - now which is correct because both come up on google. Guest guest
My question was really in relation to the use of numerals without the " L " or " T " which he has been doing throughout this report. lol I was taught to use disk for ortho and disc for ophthalmology (it took me forever to get that one straight!) Guest guest
We've had this disk versus disc discussion before. The terms are interchangeable, but most orthopods prefer disk and most eye doctors prefer disc, but I think some of that is regional and also where they went to school and when. Guest guest
As a QA I was told to make sure the MTs always use disk. ~QA Scribes NW 3-1/2 years Disk help It's been a while since I've done a herniated disk surgery. Guest guest
According to BOS, 2nd edition, p. 140: " We recommend the spelling disk for all anatomic and surgical references for this round, flat, regular, and regularly condensed plate of material. Guest guest
Just to add more confusion, I work for an orthopedic group and they want disc. Guest guest
This is one of those areas where docs and groups of docs sure have their preferences! I specialize in radiology accounts (and have worked for several all over the country), and every single one of them insists on " disc " not " disk. " They don't care what BOS or anyone else says! Guest guest
I think the preceding paragraph in the BOS is also interesting to note: " Dictionaries and other reference works have long shown a lack of agreement about the spelling of this word. Some authorities prefer the spelling 'disc' for references to the eye and 'disk' for the spine. Others have an opposite preference. " How true. I personally prefer 'disk' and intend to use it until asked to do otherwise.
