I think I've identified my number one fear with RAI--and maybe you guys can

help. I think I have in mind this chemo-sick feeling that I'm going to have.

Will I get really sick? I haven't had the " privilege " of going through hypo. I

mean I feel like my normal self. I just worry that this week I'll get really

sick and kindof have in mind this chemo patient laying on a mattress puking.

beth,

No, you're not going to get really sick, and you're not going to puke.

RAI is nothing like chemo. Most people don't feel any different after

being dosed than they did before. Some people get a little bit queasy

immediately after RAI; my doctor's theory is that it's from nerves,

not the iodine. I did, but drinking ginger ale and lying down solved

the problem in a matter of hours, and I did _not_ get sick.

You can certainly talk yourself into getting sick if you work at it

hard enough, but it's hardly worth the bother :-). Worry about

something else instead -- earthquakes, killer asteroids, poison ivy....

Best of luck with your treatment,

ellen

-Dear beth,

Each person handles the side effects of the RAI differently. In my

experience with 100mCi of RAI, I felt as if I was in my first

trimester of pregnancy...tired and a bit queezy. My glands did hurt

on the second day. Advil and warm compresses helped that. It only

lasted one or two days. Make sure you have your sour candy.I found

that plums were good too. I never puked. Also,in response to your

other post, make sure you bring good food with you because the

hospitals do not know what a low iodine diet really is. They just

don't add salt. We know better :-). I had to through things out for

the first two days. They never got it right.

Good luck to you. I hope you have a good experience with your

treatment!!

Lemonade took care of my salivary glands. My taste buds did get a little off,

but I didn't notice my tongue problems until I was home a week. I was nauseated

by lemonheads, but the nurse brought me some crackers and gingerale and I was

fine. Other than that, my hospital symptoms were just muscle soreness and not

being able to sleep more than 3 hours at a time. You'll be fine. I have every

confidence in you. Keep thinking this is an adventure, not a trial. -Kelley

--- Hi again. I didn't read this before I sent the other email, but I don't

believe

its anything like chemo. I didn't get sick and actually I didn't feel any

different

until the next day when my glands were swollen. They hurt to touch for about

2-3 days but that is very normal. In the hospital where I was they will give

you

something if you get sick, so just ask them about it before you get your

dosage.
