But how do you administer the ProEFA. I have been pricking the capsules open and squirting them in my 2 year olds mouth. It takes everything in him not to vomit. I give him one before breakfast and then one before his snack. My 6 year old is tube fed - so I just administer it with some water into his tube. Ive put up to 3 in one handy snack and Aus gobbles them rightup (has no idea they are even there) we use Nordic Naturals though and they are lemonflavored. Guest guest Posted September 1, 2006 Report Share Posted September 1, 2006 When I first starting giving the ProEFA to my 2 yr old, he wouldn't take it mixed in applesauce or other foods, which is what most people do. I started mixing it with his liquid multi-vitamins (Natrol Complete for Kids) and giving it to him with a medicine dropper. He didn't love it at first, but he would take it. He just knows that he has to take medicine, I guess. After a while, he got used to it and now he even seems to like it. When I tell him it's time to take his vitamins, he runs over to me and opens his mouth! I've had even better results when I mix the oils with POM juice, which is strongly flavored. I've heard some people squirt it in a little 7 up as a special drink treat (the oil is lemon flavored after all) so you might try that. This Safety First Syringe holds 3 1000mg capsules. My child is a resistent eater and it took about 5 mos to get him to take it without vomiting. I squeeze the oil into the back of his cheek and hold a Viva paper towel (very sift paper towels like those tissues with lotion in them) to his lips so if any comes out I can catch the spill. > > I am sure you all are getting bored with answering these questions a thousand times over. It was like someone lit a fire in him and now he parrots everything and is associating meaning to the words as well. His ABA teachers are amazed! (He has aPDD-NOS diagnosis). They said they've never seen anything like it before. He's 2 1/2 and was totally non verbal-he babbled, but not actual words-and then about 6 weeks ago, he took off like a rocket!!! I give him 2 capsules a day:2000 mg total:-I mix it with a small amount of food so he gets the whole dose. I mix it in with his brown rice medley, usually, so haven't noticed any diarrhea(never could spell that! LOL!)and I also mix it in his oatmeal, another binding type of food. So I ended up just forcing him to take it " strait up " . I'm only giving him one capsule (1000 mg) right now so I could try to decrease it but would that be effective? Another thought I had ws to give it to him in portions (e.g. some in his milk, some in his applesause, etc) . This could help the taste problem but would it help the diarrhea problem? Also, do you know if there is a way to mix it in with foods that you bake or would the heat change the composition so to make it noneffective? I'm having a difficult time getting him to eat it with food since he can taste it right away and then won't eat the food.
