Kay,

I'm so disappointed! We only live 2 hours from

Charlotte. Landon sees a couple of doctor's over that

way and we shop there sometimes too. I am going out of

town Wed. and then we are shopping at the outlets at

Myrtle Beach on Friday. My mom, brother, his

girlfriend, her mother and her little boy are coming

to my house to spend the night Thurs and then we are

all going to spend the night at the beach on Friday.

Busy schedule and I have a messy house to boot! Guess

I'll be cleaning tonight! If you come again, let me

know and we'll get together. Will you come again over

Christmas? I'm off work for 2 weeks during that time.

Hope to meet you next trip!

Thank you very much for your sharing your experience with me. I can't tell

how much less " alone " I feel! I'm so glad you're doing better. Where do you

live? We will survive and thrive! Where do you live? I wonder if we go to

the same doc? --charlotte in vermont

Charlotte.....I live in central Maine, near Bangor. I don't believe we share the same doctor, although I did go to Boston to see Dr. D a year and a half ago. I have not seen him since. I am doing so much better.....but want more!!! Is that selfish...LOL.

All the best.

Ah, Happy, that explains a lot of the similarities. My doc works very

closely with Dr. D. and consults with him on most cases. So we've sort of

had the same docs!

Take care, charlotte in Vermont

You know - my youngest son love Piglet from the WTP stories - and he's 12!!! (and is NT!!)

I think it's cos he's got a stammer and so has piglet!

In fact, he has a little piglet that he got for his 2nd christmas. When he was in hospital earlier in the year, he wanted to take piglet with him. It went round to theatre and the anethstist put a bandage on piglets leg - just like paul had!

I KNOW my kids have to grow up - but it's nice that they can still have a little innocence.

And hopefully nice memories that they can pass on the their children if they have any.

Valiry,

All the products have the same goal. That is too produce hearing for the

impaired. I don't think that you will find unbiased opinions of the three

implants.

We all think our implant is great. The important thing for you to remember

maybe is too go with what your surgeon feels is the best for your daughter.

If the surgeon has done more Cochlear implants than Clarion or Med El

naturally they are going to feel more comfortable doing that one but just

remember all of the implants that are available in the US are FDA approved

and so would give your daughter hearing.

I wish you well.

First, thank you so much for all of your help. The FAQ is very helpful. I am

saving all of this info. We have Home Based services. My question, or more

comment, is that I have such a hard time finding any services that will accept

Medicaid because the quality services charge more. I live in Will County if

anyone knows anyone who takes Medicaid and is good with autism. I have tried so

many psychiatrists and psychologists who wasted our time. I learned more about

their lives than my daughter. Finally they would ask me what do I want and

write prescriptions. I would very much like to give RDI a try. I've seen the

DVD and it is what I do at home(mentor relationship with constant one on one)

and has really helped with communication but I know the professionals have much

more. I seem to hear that it can be paid for under the children's Waiver. My

daughter is 21. Does the adult waiver cover RDI? I've called a number of RDI

consultants and they do not accept Medicaid. My worker thru the PASS agency

keeps changing and they never know the answers. I have read thru the waiver

(thanks for providing) and so I am telling them what should be covered. They

sent me Medicaid forms to give to whomever I want services from (RDI,

therapeutic horse riding, Special Rec) and so far they dont want to accept and

noone seems to be able to say what Medicaid would cover if they did. I can't

find a Speech therapist to accept the $ amount allowed and I'm told I can't

agree to pay the difference. So -- right now I am her PSW and I use the funds I

get to pay for whatever I can, and then we get transportation reimbursed. Right

now I am waiting for Medicaid to approve her as an adult. She had a medicaid

card as a special needs adoption. If they don't approve soon we will be without

Medicaid and I fear that could mean I lose the hard fought for Home Based. They

would not accept an application until 30 days before the end of her DCFS card.

I'm hearing it takes months to approve. Same with Social Security. I made 3

trips in to try and get them to take the application but they would not because

she was getting funds from DCFS. Based on my experience both of these approvals

will take months because she has no physical disability AND her IQ is over 70

but we have gone thru the process so many times of proving the Functional

deficiencies(autism related) that prevent her from being part of the typical

community, working, having friends, living independently, etc. Finally, with

Marcie's help and her coworker , I got them to accept the application

but I understand it may take months. Without this group I would be pulling my

hair out trying to get thru this, now I'm just turning greyer. Thanks, Gloria

Gloria,

I am out of my element re: the question about getting Medicaid approved when the

IQ is above 70 and there is no physical disability. I think there is probably a

host people on this site who can inform you. Or you might check with Faye

Manaster at Family to Family Health Information and Education Center,

familytofamily@...,

866-931-1110 (toll free for Illinois families) or 708-560-6703.

My gut is that this will work out. I have a vague memory of hearing that DHS/DD

will provide some leeway at moments like this.

The bigger question that I think you illustrate so beautifully is the difficulty

of finding providers of medicaid services, especially doctors and therapists as

you have experienced with RDI and your psychiatrists. THIS IS A HUGE PROBLEM.

Just the other day my chiropractor was telling me that he is going to quit

accepting Medicaid patients because he hasn't been paid by the state since last

summer. He had just seen a family of, I think, six kids. And now he was going to

have to start turning them away. He said, " I just can't affort to not get paid. "

Charlotte, my brother in law is a doctor and has recently stopped taking

Medicaid for that very reason. At first, he was keeping his old Medicaid

patients and any patients who ended up on Medicaid and not accept new patients.

But the state told him it was all or nothing, so he went with nothing. He can't

afford it. If the government is going to pay pennies on the dollar for medical

services, then at least they can do is make sure the doctors are getting paid.

This is a VITAL area for our legislative advocacy!!! Medicaid both at the state

and federal levels impacts the lives of our children tremendously....

Maybe in the near future, either myself or someone else will put together a list

of relevant talking points for all of us to use with our legislators.

Hi Charlotte,I used to go to Pain Management (moved and now it's over an hour away, so haven't started back yet since my gp will write my Rx's). This was down in Dallas when I was going. I used to take Darvacet..and I tried soma and lortab also...they moved me up to Vicodin.......the docs there said Darvocet really is OK for temporary pain or minor pain, but for long term it really isn't good. I don't know what everyone else thinks about this, but that's what I was told by 3 of my doctors down there. They're now prescribing Lyrica for fibro also......I tried that and it didn't help me at all; but, I know some people who are taking it and it's working for them. But Darvocet really isn't that strong for people with chronic pain. I remember flushing 3

months worth down the toilet, I had just ordered thru mail order, and the doc decided to move me up to vicodin. It worked a lot better but still a lot of pain (I have a lot of problems - all painful) and then they also added the Duragesic Patch. I'm sure you'll get a lot of good suggestions on this site. This is just my experience with Darvocet. Good luck. Take Care, B. in ILLINOIS soma vs lortap relief wise or side effects what is stronger or better? i have fibro and ankle probs, bone spurs, water on the ankle, no achilles heel, torn ligaments and a fewother things i cant thinkof, are there other meds out there that would help better, as of now im on darvacets and muscle relaxers
