Guest guest
That's cool, Beth. Is this something that you've always wanted to do, something that you've been meaning to get back into or what? My dtr and I went to a step class last night and I'm so nervous being around others (a bit of an introvert here). Is the class a weekly thing? Kanala/Sandy > Hey ladies. Guest guest
Yes, it's every Thursday. My daughter and I are taking together. She said, " I'm glad you're taking, Mom. " I used to take it when I was young, and I took a couple of classes in college, but life got in the way and I didn't keep it up. I absolutely love it. Kanala <wtgsandy@...> wrote:That's cool, Beth. Guest guest
The best calves in the world belong to ballet dancers. If I wasn't so clumsy I'd take it up again myself. My mother made me do it when I was a child but by the time I was 10 or so I gave up because I could never keep on the same step as the others in class, lol. Guest guest
It may also be an age thing. My non-apraxic daughter LOVED ballet at age 3, but at 4, began to dislike it, didn't want to do the recital etc. Some of this is age appropriate. I had a long talk with her before taking her out. She clearly voiced her opinion, and given the option, wanted to stop. She tried it, she liked it for a while, and then outgrew it. She is now doing karate - and loves it. Good to try and figure out why she's not enjoying it anymore. She doesn't HAVE to do the recital if that's the big issue related to motor planning. But we decided that if our daughter really wasn't enjoying it anymore, it lost its purpose. - [ ] Ballet Hello- I'm not sure if this has been addressed before, but I'm looking for a little information/input. My Apraxic daughter - age 4 - has been taking ballet since last September. It has been important to both of us as it is the one " class " she has that's not about speech/sid, etc. Recently we signed her up to be in a very small recital, and they are practicing the dance for it. Now she all of a sudden does not want to go to ballet, really fights it. when I got to the bottom of it, I discovered that she feels doing the " step, step, step, turn " is too hard for her. She also contends it's too hard to walk on her toes. I'm wondering if it is a sequncing thing - that doing the step, turn etc on command is too difficult. This makes me wonder isf I should pull her out of the class. Anyone have any similar experiences or suggestions? Is this also a motor planning thing? I'm so used to it being all about speech that I'm feeling confused about this. Thanks in advance. Kim
Guest guest
Great job!! I love it! The courage to do what you want is an amazingly freeing feeling! Thanks for the encouragement! Sent on the Sprint® Now Network from my BlackBerry® Ballet Hi I want to proudly declare that I go to ballet every week and I absolutely love it. I am the wrong shape for a traditional ballet dancer and I don't want to perform in front of anyone, but this doesn't matter. I love the discipline (i'm a rules type person), the fact that my mind has to work almost as hard as my body and it has to work hard. I used to hate " exercise " and had deemed myself a lazy person physically(limiting belief dealt with). I could exercise and motivated myself to do it, but it was because I felt I should and not because i wanted to. Never because of any joy in the activity itself. Now I think Thursday is the best day of the week because it is my class. I don't mind going after work and getting home late because I love it and I feel brilliant afterwards. I've been scouting around to look for more classes,as once a week may not be enough of a good thing. Yesterday our teacher said she was really proud of our group and I got closer to getting down in the splits than I have ever in my life and I am 43! The reason I wanted to share that I was proud, was because at first I told people (who needed to know where I was) that I was going to " a class " and then " a dance class " as I was somehow embarrassed that someone my age and shape could have the presumption to dance ballet. Well forget that - I dance ballet, therefore I am a ballet dancer and proud of it. I hope you find your " exercise " that floats your boat as much. Don't stop looking - see how long it has taken me to find something I love so much. Viv
