Guest guest
any amateur (or professional for that matter) cat psychologists out there?? i seem to remember georga has something like 10 cats - surely that must give you insight into the feline mind! our cat (pablo) has been bullying rowan lately. he is a year old (as of two weeks ago) so we have had him about 10 months. rowan has always been disinterested in him. rowan has never approached pablo, and certainly never touched him or picked him up. he avoids him completely. in the last week or so pablo seems very aggressive toward rowan and will lunge and claw him. only rowan, nobody else. needless to say this is not winning him any points with my boy. last night rowan was sitting looking at a book and pablo came up behind him and hissed, jumped at rowan and dug his claws into his back. this is just one example of about half a dozen similar incidents. any insight??? any suggestions? is it possible pablo is fed up with being ignored by rowan? michelle mg
Guest guest
Your cat is mental. Cats are nothing but life support systems for fur. Seriously, something about cats they always seem interested in the person that wants nothing to do with them. Now, keep in mind that nothing a cat does is logical. This would be my guess. Rowan is acting aloof to the cat, wants nothing to do with him. I would think that Pablo is thinking Rowan is a cat and is trying to fight him for domanance. If he isn't neutered (Pablo, not Rowan) I would have it done. The other suggetion is it possible that Rowan did something really icky (in cat terms) to Pablo without your knowledge and is getting in retaliation? Cats have also been know just to hate people for no reason. That is my insight into the cat mind. Guest guest
yes, pablo is neutered. no, i don't think rowan has ever been close enough to pablo to offend or injure him without my knowledge. paul (dh) wants to declaw pablo if he doesn't let up. i don't know if i like that idea. if i were a cat my claws would be my favourite part of being a cat ;o) michelle mg -----
Guest guest
You can get something called Soft Paws that will keep the cats toes intact (declawing is really mean, it cuts off the tips of the cats toes. Imagine someone was cutting off your fingers at the first bendy spot) and he won't be able to scratch. Ask your vet about them Georga Hackworth Enter to win $50 worth of free books www.ubah.com/F1549 Re: pablo the bully cat yes, pablo is neutered. no, i don't think rowan has ever been close enough to pablo to offend or injure him without my knowledge. paul (dh) wants to declaw pablo if he doesn't let up. i don't know if i like that idea. if i were a cat my claws would be my favourite part of being a cat ;o) michelle mg -----

Guest guest
It is something that you have to get through your vet for whatever reason. If you could get it at the pet store I would have had it by now. Guest guest
I think it's something the vet has to put on, and I don't know if it would be appropriate for an outdoor cat. Declawing is also not appropriate for an outdoor cat, and it is a nasty thing, but IMO it's a better option than putting the cat to sleep for attacking your child. And I could not in good concience pass an animal with that history on to another family. I have no idea why Pablo might be acting this way. The only other thing I can think of is to squirt him with water every time he does it. We did this to train our cat (not to scratch the furniture, eat the children's food, etc) & now she responds when you make a " psht! " noise like the spray bottle made. It's very funny! -Sara. > okay forget the declaw thing! that sounds horrific! i will > look for this soft paws stuff at the pet store tonight! thanks georga! > michelle mg
Guest guest
we did use a spray bottle when pablo was a kitten and i guess we should reintroduce it. paul has thrown pablo in the shower a couple of times but that hasn't seemed to sink in with him yet. michelle mg

My vet told me that in cat language, a stare in the face is a sign of aggression and a challenging thing. A face turned away is a sign of non-aggression and welcoming. That's why cat's always go to the cat haters -- because cat-haters don't look at them About the attacks....does anything about Rowan SMELL different than usual? Is pablo an indoor cat, or an indoor/outdoor cat? Both my cats have their claws because they do go outside, and I don't want them out there unarmed. But if Pablo is strictly indoors... Guest guest
> any insight??? any suggestions? is it possible pablo is fed up with being ignored by rowan? > I don't know if it's a similar situation at all or not but when I was little, we had a Siamese. My father is very rough and (I think) mean to cats. He likes to make them mad. (the man shouldn't be allowed around most animals.) Anyway, he would tease Pharoah until the cat was so mad I swear his eyes glowed red. I was the youngest child in the house, about 5-9 when this happened. The cat would come and take his anger out on me. I had bloody scratches all down my legs from the beast coming and attacking me, hanging on my legs with his front claws and kicking me like a rabbit with his back feet. It's amazing I didn't hate that cat. He would get so mad that the only way my mom could calm him down and get him to stop attacking me was to dump him in a tub of cool water. You might try spraying Pablo with a squirt gun whenever he tries to attack Rowan. Tina
