Hi everyone,

Did not post yesterday as I had to go to the doctor as unfortunately I ave a

slight infection in the wound and it needed to be covered again and I had to

be put on antibiotics for a week, my dr informed me that it would be at

least another 4 to 6 weeks before I return to work even though I had my ep

on the 12th of September, he feels I need this time, well as I explained in

my first letter my dh has also been ill with testicular cancer and had his

right testical removed on March the 5th we really are the odd couple now me

with my left tube gone and him with his right testical, is there going to be

any hope for us at this stage, I,m 38 and married 11 years, so time is not

on my side also we were told not to ttc before March 2002 because of dh's

radium treatment that he needs to be six months at least over the treatment

before we can try.

Like everyone, still feeling weepy and sad but it is getting a bit better, I

see lots of people calling to my next door neighbours house with cards,

flowers and presents for the new baby boy and it does make me sad maybe I'll

call out soon but not yet.

The management and owners at my work place have been great but there is one

girl in particular who works in the same office as me who I thought was my

friend, and who is not inconvenienced in any way by my absence is being

nasty saying how come I need so much time off work and really I need to get

back to work or otherwise I will just get depressed, she has been to see me

twice in the last month and this is a very small town so it is not that she

has to travel far,she is one of those goody two shoes who when she had an

operation herself returned to work a few days later playing the martyr, most

of my other friends are great but this one hurts me so much, I have one

great friend who has had cancer herself 3 years ago (she's great now) thank

God and she is just wonderful.

Call me stupid if you wish but could someone fill me in on the terminology

and abbreviations as I am not sure what they all mean like what is HSG.

Thank you to everyone for listening it is great to have the support even

though you are all far away and I here in Ireland it is nice to talk to

people who understand.

Lots of Love to everyone,

Carol.

Carol Derrane.

Hi Carol,

I am sorry to hear that you have an infection in your wound but the

antibiotics will knock whatever is there right out. As far as you being 38

and the fear of time not being on your side is understandable, but time can

also be there for you. My ex-sister in laws sister got married when she was

34 and had her first baby at 38 and she only has one ovary so I think of her

alot. Plus look at all these stars(Madonna and Kim Basinger etc etc)they

have all have had their children in their late 30s or early 40s so I think

you have plenty of time you just got to concentrate on getting well and your

dh getting better for the time being. Besides I live by the motto It isn't

the fastest woman that wins the race it is the one that thinks she can that

does and for some reason when I start thinking about time and everything else

that saying really helps me. As far as your co-worker goes don't feel that

you need to be just like her and be right back at work. I think you need

this time not only to heal physically but emotionally as well that way when

it is time for you to go back to work you will be a little " refreshed. "

Please take care, Carol things are gonna get better and one of these days

your gonna be holding a little baby in your arms and everyone will be coming

to see him or her. Oh before I forget hsg stands for Hystersalpinogram which

is an x-ray that is taken to check to see if your tubes are open and check

the uterine cavity after an ep or as a part of an infertility workup.

Love,

Sheila

Carol,

Your strength is amazing. I think I'd be collapsing at this point

with all you;ve been through. It's funny though, when life tosses us

terrible years like this one for you, you seem to learn and get

stronger even through the pain and sadness. You learn alot about

your friends at times like this too. It's great to hear that you

have many great ones. The one that isn't so great hurts....but she's

just one. If she choses to play the Martyr that is her choice,

you're smart enough to know that your body and heart need healing

time, and you should listen to your doctor and your body and take all

the time you need. My prayers are with you and your husband....at

least between the two of you you can laugh a little. I bet you both

really understand each other going through all this at the same

time! I wish you great luck when you get the go ahead to ttc!

Hugs,

Marci

Carol,

I am sorry to hear about the infection....just want you needed on top of

everything else!! {{{HUG}}} I must say that was kind of cute, the comment you

made about you and your dh being the odd couple....but that doesn't mean that

you two can't or won't become pregnant!!!! You are a very strong person, you

have been through so much and you will get through this. As for the

" supportive " friend at work, it is a shame but some have no clue to what you are

going through. I had a friend who had found out she was pg about 2 months

before me who wrote me and told me she was sorry to hear about the " baby thing "

meaning my loss!! Than she went on to write all about how she was feeling and

all. I was soooo upset!!! She than called me on New Year's Eve and left a

message to wish me a Happy New Years!!! I finally wrote her a letter and told

her I no longer wanted to be her friend!! It is hard when you people you

thought would be at least understanding aren't!! I am sorry.

{{{{{{{{{{{{HUG}}}}}}}}}}}

As for the abbreviations, I can't remember them all...maybe someone else here

can help me out....

hsg....darn I forgot the name of the actually test....but it is a test where

they run dye through your tube(s) to see if there is any blockages.

dh/dp....dear husband or dear partner af...aunt flow....your cycle

ttc....trying to conceive 2ww...the time

between your af and Ovulation

O.....ovulation bd......having sex

pg.....pregnant

I am sorry I am drawing a blank on any others right now but like I said I am

sure one of the " old-timers " here can help me out!! (smile)

Take care.

Carol,

I have only my left tube and I asked my dr if that meant I will not be able to

conceive every other month..right?.. this was my thought and he said no....if

you still have both ovaries your 1 good tube will float over to catch the egg

produced by the opposite ovary. you are still able to get pd whenever you

ovulate....there is a longer time frame that the egg is in the tube though.

This is what my dr told me so??? I thooght I would pass that on!!!

Oh heck yeah, you still have to go for it with gusto every month!! I mean, we

do & my tubes haven't worked for my whole marriage! Still we pretend that we

are ttc, because it makes us both feel better about the whole thing. So go for

it!

hugs, lori
