> there is a channel on directv that plays pbs kids shows 24/7. this is one

of kailey's favorite channels. as a matter of fact, this is the channel that

we had on for MONTHS, because she wouldn't allow it to be changed. this

isn't the only channel she watches now, but she still loves it. would i be

stupid not to take the awesome cable deal, just to keep ONE channel?

>

In the world of autism, no, you would not. Can you talk to Kailey about

this? No way I could talk to Putter about it, but would that work? You

would know. But if losing that one channel would make your life impossibly

difficult for a period of time, well, then I don't think it is worth it.

That's so funny that you says this because we just got offered the direct tv

deal for 41 dollars and we were thinking of switching LOL. I would check

with neighbors and see what pbs has to offer on cable. We have two different

pbs channels that come with our cable. That's why we haven't switched. At

my mom's they have three.

I would check first then see about switching.

i have satellite tv, directv to be exact. i get all their channels for $40 a

month, plus local channels for an extra $9, plus the showtime package for an

extra $12. that's a total of $61 and only one of my tv's is hooked up, cause

each box is $99.

anyway... this afternoon, i get a visit from the local cable company with a

great deal for satellite users to switch over to cable and get ALL their

channels, this includes EVERY movie package, for only $49 a month. it's a set

price for 3 years. there's free installation, i can have ALL 3 of my tv's hooked

up for free, and i will get $200 credit.

so, you may wonder why i'm even telling you all this, and now i will tell you

why...

Are there any channels in the cable lineup that Kailey may like?

I know with our cable we have Disneys, Nickelodeans, PBS kids

channels, Cartoon networks and even a Cartoon Free on Demand thingy

that I can order the same Tom & Jerrry cartoons over and over again

whenever he wants to watch them for free.

Out of curiosity, are there any problems with satellite and weather or

having to re-position the satellite dish or anything?

no, she wouldn't understand what i was trying to say. i'd have to just go ahead

and do it and then tell her things changed and that's that. she'd prolly like

the idea of having a tv in her room that did more than play videos anyway.

oh yes, we'll still have nick, disney, toon disney, noggin, and cartoon network.

we'll no longer have the nick and disney west, pbs kids channel, and boomerang.

but we'd get hbo family, showtime family and starz family, all of which we don't

have now.

weather, yes. if it's very cloudy or rainy or snowy or foggy, it will sometimes

go out.

repositioning, no. unless it got messed with or a tree fell on it or something

;)

Is there a comparable channel w/the other package?

Record say a week's worth of shows before switching so she can put the tapes

in?

Really depends how bad she would flip.

who would spend the extra $ to keep a peaceful house, if need be.

I have DirecTV (with Tivo, which we *adore*) anyway, I get all the channels

with local, plus HBO (gotta have Sex in the City), also for $12, but my

months bill is like closer to $50/mo. Your $61 sounds a little high - - you

should be able to checking pricing at the website.

The cable thing does sound like a good deal - - they said the price is set

for three years, but is the channel package gonna stay the same? Like you I

like the all day PBS kids channel, but Noggin is also good if you have to

have something to entertain your child in the middle of the night : )

My experience with cable is really negative ... there isn't enough

competition for them to provide good service imho, but that's just my bias

....

yes. i like the idea of all those movie channels. especially with trev going to

school soon. i might actually have the chance to watch tv during the day and i'd

like to have another choice besides talk shows and soaps :-P
