Your doctor is in the majority in not recommending a T4/T3 combo (see archived

letters linked below, for more info)

For patients who are taking both T4 and T3, there are two basic ways of going

about the dosing; (a) T4 sufficient for TSH suppression, with a small amount of

T3 added on top of that, and (B) T4 and T3

combined for TSH suppression.

I'm guessing that your doctor is referring to the second way. TSH suppression

is an important part of thyca protocol, in that it keeps any lingering thyca

cells suppressed, hopefully preventing a

recurrence. Because T3 has such a short half life, our TSH fluctuates

throughout the course of the day. This isn't a problem if we are taking enough

T4 to suppress TSH on its own, but it CAN be a problem

if we are relying on T3 for suppression. I hope this makes sense.

If your TSH is already suppressed (generally meaning <.10), and you are still

not feeling as well as you think you should, perhaps your doctor will consider

allowing you to try adding a bit of T3, to see if

it makes a difference.

I haven't heard of this as being a side effect of thyca in any way. It may be

unrelated, but it is certainly worth checking out further.

Can you tell us a little more about your thyca history? Diagnosis when, what?,

treatments, etc.).
