Guest guest
hi, My frined's non-verbal baby girl is just about 2.6 yrs. She is in kindergarten. She doesn't know how to express even when the stool is already in the diaper. Can every one tell me how to teach the baby girl or how to do the potty training? Thank you very much. Guest guest
My best advice is sign language!! I hope they are trying to find why she is non-verbal. Signs helped my son TREMENDOUSLY!! It was great. It helped frustration. You can look up basic ones on the internet. It may take a bit for her to get used to them, but do the sign and say the word. Don't make it complicated. say juice and do the sign for juice. say milk and do the sign for milk. My son was very intersted in trying and used them a great deal before he started to communicate effectively with speech. You have to be persistent though. Even if she isn't using them right away, you keep using them. Only introdue a few. Don't try using 10 different signs in 1 day! Once she gets the hang of 1, then you can introduce another! My son's favorite sign--- cookie!! :-) >From: " karen_ting_blue " <jennyting@...> >Reply- > >Subject: [ ] non verbal with potty training >Date: Tue, 29 Aug 2006 03:04:51 -0000 > >hi, > >My frined's non-verbal baby girl is just about 2.6 yrs. Guest guest
I also have a 2 year old. Is the baby ready to be potty trained? My daughter knows the sign for her little potty but has no interest in it at all. Not every 2 year old is ready to be potty trained. Does she care that the poop is in her diaper, my daughter could care less? If she is ready to be potty trained and is non verbal, you could try teaching her sign language or to use pictures to communicate. If you want to teach her sign language it make take 6 weeks from the time you start teaching her until she understands how to do the sign and what it means. Most signing kids make the sign for attention before they realize the use of communicating. --------- [ ] non verbal with potty training >Date: Tue, 29 Aug 2006 03:04:51 -0000 > >hi, > >My frined's non-verbal baby girl is just about 2.6 yrs. Guest guest
Hi My son was dx with verbal apraxia .I was having a hard time with the potty training myself I thought it was just real hard without him being able to talk and tell me when he needed to go but he understands everything you say to him and now I think it wasn't the talking he just wasn't ready. He has been potty trained now for 2 weeks Hew haw no more diapers and he is 3yrs old and 2mos. So really it might be she just isn't ready. tells in these ways about needing to go: he now points down there or holds himself ,or pulls on you to take him to the bathroom. Today was his 1st day of preschool I was so glad to pick him up and see that he had the same outfit !!!!!! Good luck with the potty . Merci christy1246@... wrote: I also have a 2 year old. Guest guest
Pictures! I just started using pictures with my son last week. Wow! He caught on in a heartbeat. I put a picture of a diaper up with the rest of them (food, books, bedtime, etc.) and was very surprised when he brought me the picture of the diaper. Since then, he consistenly brings me the picture when his diaper is dirty. I had NO idea he even cared about the dirty diapers. This is our first step but I am not going to start for a few more months. > > hi, > > My frined's non-verbal baby girl is just about 2.6 yrs. She is in > kindergarten. Guest guest
We use PECS with our 39 month son. (Picture Exchange Communication System) brought me a 2 " x 2 " laminated card for " popsicle " and later on one for " story book " and one for " finger paint " . He is learning how to use this type of communication quickly! He only has a few words plus many approximations but I still have trouble understanding him. > > > > hi, > > > > My frined's non-verbal baby girl is just about 2.6 yrs. She is in > > kindergarten. Guest guest
" I hope they are trying to find why she is non-verbal. " My son is totally non verbal. He makes NO mouth noises only throat noises - squeals, laughs etc. He's 4 - well 5 on MOnday - and no one can/will give him a dx! WE've seen numerous neuros, St's etc and no answers. He doesn't sign well. he has a few of his own that I've had to learn from him. His fine motor skills aren't very good. Any suggestions on finding and official dx for a 5 year old? We are using pictures and going for an ACC eval soon. SHerry Jon and April <jonaprilpow@...> wrote: My best advice is sign language!! I hope they are trying to find why she is non-verbal.
