Guest guest
I thought some of you might be interested in a great Putter data sheet, and also I wanted input from those whose kids are school age about how Putter's day looks in comparison to your kids. Putter's aide fills these out every day; this one was for January 21: 8:50 Kindergarten Room Journal Putter didn't do journal today. Instead he looked at coins and played in the housekeeping area. 9:00 Kindergarten Room Group for weather, date, etc. Putter sat with group after a few minutes. He didn't stay long, went back to " set table " in housekeeping area. He came back when students sang. 9:30 Kindergarten Room Work with teacher, the letter " Ll " Putter sat at table and worked the whole time today. He had some difficulties staying where the other kids were with the work but did a pretty good job. 10:10 Art Room " Leopard " drawing and painting Putter did a great job putting spots on leopard and painting it. 10:30 Kindergarten Room Free time: play at any station Putter played with coins and at sand table 11:00 Kindergarten Room Snack/story Putter ate cookie, chocolate chip. 11:30 Lunch Putter didn't want lunch today. 11:40 Kindergarten Room Free time Putter played on the computer 12:15 AI (Autistic Impaired) Room Toothbrushing Putter did a great job 1:00 AI Room Computer Putter really enjoyed computer time today. He did three different activities. 1:20 AI Room Snack Putter refused any lunch today, so we extended his computer time a while and he read two different books on sharks. 2:00 AI Room Individual Learning Time I called Putter to his individual time and we looked at his friends in kindergarten. He went over his reading milestones book and we completed two worksheets " Letter F " Putter almost completed a third worksheet but he got tired. 2:27 AI Room Work with Teacher Time Simple sequence puzzle with Loretta (another aide); needed prompts at first 3:05 AI Room Snack Putter didn't want snack so we read a short story. 3:30 Home And at the bottom of this data sheet, wrote: GREAT DAY! Putter is an awesome guy! Naturally I like the last line, but what do you all think? I have been very pleased about these data sheets, feeling that this is a great deal of information about Putter's school day. How many of you with kids in school get this much information, or more information or what? We are not close to the school so this is about all I hear, except that I do email occasionally and she is very good about responding. He seems to be participating well enough in Kindergarten; I wonder if he does not get a bit more computer time than he needs (Putter would disagree! He nowhere near meets his Average Daily Putter Computer Requirement ADPCR) in his humble opinion). You might wonder why they are still working with Putter on the letter F in the AI classroom, but I think that the point is that the teacher or aide or whomever is working WITH Putter rather than Putter doing it all alone. It is supposed to be interactive. Sound reasonable???? Any feedback appreciated. Salli

I have been very pleased that I was getting all this information and my assumption is that many get less. Putter's notebook used to have nothing all too often though I found that it would have more if I wrote more and, well, you know me! I can always write more though I wished it could be done by email as my typing is FAST! > gina <--- too shocked for words > Shocked, I hope, because this is a good and informative data sheet? Our school district is big on data and at the IEP, they kept saying that they had " No data " on how Putter would do. So I think that Michele (the autism teacher consultant, NOT Putter's aide, she has two " l " s) decided to GIVE them their darned data. Guest guest
> OH MY GOSH! > > That is the most amazing school-to-home communication I have ever seen! > Okay, I thought this was good too. Now, having found that out, I wanted to offer copies of Putter data sheets to anyone having an IEP. Of course they would probably tell you that no one has time to fill out such things, and you know I have wondered if she should be spending so much time on data sheets instead of interacting with Putter. NO matter how things are and how much information you have you always are wondering if it could be tweaked slightly? Salli
Guest guest
> > my assumption is that many get less < > > your assumption would be correct So is the usual a communication notebook into which things may or may not be written. Or is even that a good thing that often does not happen? Salli
Guest guest
Does Putter like working on the letter " F " ? > Well, Putter certainly isn't going to tell me. But I imagine he did. He adores letters still and lets him expand his worksheets quite a lot. I do like the detailed data, but I actually think it is part of the plot to make sure that the school can't say " No data! " You see, we have a county autism program that Putter's old school was part of. And his new school has a classroom that the county program runs, while the rest of the school is run by the city school district. There are little battles for jurisdiction between the two areas and I think Putter has benefited in this case. You KNOW it isn't because a parent wants it! Guest guest
I just had a conversation with 's teacher about this. Yes I'm glad that seems happy but since she has seemed happy for the past three months I believe it is safe to say that she will remain happy. I would like information about things that will help me to have conversations with . Her teacher told me to write up five questions and she will try to answer them so that I can ask the same questions. They are Who did you sit next to at circle time today? Did you play a new game today? What song did you sing today? Who did you play with the most today? What did you do on the playground/gym today? I get sheets for speech and OT but they are really minimal.

Guest guest
Salli we have a communication book that goes back and forth to school. It is the only way that I have any idea of what has gone on at school because Sully's response to everything is " Great! " He has an excellent aide and an excellent teacher but by far, you have the best communication from school I have ever seen!!! Guest guest
I persaonally wouldnt want quite so much. But that is just me. I had alot with Greggory when he was in his special PreK in NC. It was a sheet that had sections like art and playtime and lunch and circle. The sections had pictures next to them. If it went well with nothing unusually bad or good it would have a happy face that greggory helped put there. If not I would have a comment there. If something great happened a happy face and comment. At the bottom I was to sign it and return it and ask any questions. I liked that the best. Very simple. I think That a better way to get a child to interact would be by working on something he was a little challenged by and liked. Does Putter like working on the letter " F " ? jacquie H A Putter Data Sheet I thought some of you might be interested in a great Putter data sheet, and also I wanted input from those whose kids are school age about how Putter's day looks in comparison to your kids. Guest guest
I get pretty good feedback on this year. His teaching aide sends me updates on all of his gen ed classes to let me know what they did in the classroom and whether or not there is a homework assignment. Also tells me what kind of mood he was in and if he initiated any interactions, etc.. If theres other things going on, I also get notes from the spec ed teacher or a call from her. They are having students work with him now too, so the students write notes on how he did, if they have any questions, etc., and these come home weekly or bi weekly. Then there are weekly progress reports that are done (each day) in the gen ed class also. For , I'm now talking back and forth with the resource room teacher and sometimes the aide. (the new one is working well with him ) Anyway, she's letting me know if he has good or bad days, how many points he's earned, if they're seeing any sensory problems, etc... And.....He's already saved enough points for another lunch with the principal!! Sue

NO matter how things are and how > much information you have you always are wondering if it could be tweaked > slightly? No! It's only one or two sentences for each period; that would take less than one minute to write, and probably while Putter is clearing up, or getting ready for the next thing. That makes about 10 minutes spread out over the whole day to write that sheet. It's a wonderful thing. :-) Jacquie
